Wonderful stay at this fantastic property. Quiet and secluded back house was perfect. Mark and Marty provided everything we needed for our 3-night stay. The property was within walking distance to the ocean and to restaurants. Thoroughly enjoyed our time.

Comfy granny flat

Perfect retreat
Situated in a quiet neighborhood but within walking distance of coffee shops, restaurants, and the ocean, the cottage offered a perfect balance of comfort, privacy and convenience. The bed was very comfortable and I enjoyed being able to read, write, and bird watch on the private balcony that overlooks a tranquil garden. On-street parking was readily available anytime of day and check-in/check-out was easy as pie. Many thanks to Mark and Marty for being excellent hosts! Hope to see you again next time I’m in San Diego.

Great Space
Everything was perfect for our short stay. Close to dining/eateries. Close to La Jolla Village,Torrey Pines and downtown San Diego. The upstairs space is perfect for a couple.

Great place - quiet and peaceful-perfect
We loved our time here - Mark and Marty are amazingly generous hosts - great communication and we will definitely stay here again in the future. The bikes were great to use. Good walking and short distance to the beach and amazing restaurants. Can’t thank them enough. Five stars !!

Bird Rock Bungalow
Quaint one room apartment in a quiet area. The accommodations were very comfortable and very clean. It was a perfect space for my short stay in LaJolla. The owner is very responsive to questions. I would stay again when in LaJolla.

Hidden Gem
This cottage was an amazing stay! From the utilities provided to the area begin so close to awesome spots. Felt just like home away from home! The neighborhood is very quiet, cozy, and beautiful. Especially loved the accommodations when it came to early check-in and late check-out! Huge plus in my book! Would definitely be coming back and recommending to friends.

One year anniversary
This place has everything you need. Perfect size for a couple. Private balcony. Nice neighborhood. Safe. Close to lots of restaurants. And the bikes included were clutch. Being able to ride to different beaches

It was a cute little room, it had everything I needed. Enjoyed the two block walk down to the ocean. Mardy and Mark were both gracious and friendly. I enjoyed the breakfast my last day.

Great spot
This was a great spot in a perfect location for our brief stay in La Jolla. The bed was surprisingly comfy, the croissants at the nearby bakery were wonderful, and having bikes available to use was a huge plus. Thank you, Marty, for a great stay.

Room is above garage so you do hear the garage door opening and closing. Ideal space for one person. Only one chair so second person has to sit on bed or out on the patio (weather permitting). Kitchen is very compact but is reasonably equipped for making snacks in toaster oven. King bed was very comfortable and is actually a sofa bed but cannot be retracted because of the thick foam mattress, so is not available as a seating area.

Just what I needed
I had a conference at a resort later in the week and decided to come in a few days early for a "me-cation" and to explore the area. This cozy cottage was absolutely perfect for what I needed! It's just a few blocks from the little downtown area of Bird Rock. I could walk and get pastries and coffee in the morning and enjoy them while looking out over the cliffs at the ocean. It's an easy Uber ride to anywhere else you want to visit. I didn't get to use the bike because of the rain, but I dodged the raindrops enough to enjoy visits to the Zoo, Mission Beach, and walk the main streets of La Jolla and the Cove. Marty was incredibly sweet and helpful, even offering to grab me anything I needed from the store since I was arriving late. Just a really lovely stay all around.

Nice cottage
We needed a place to stay while our house was treated for termites. This cottage is a block away which was perfect. Marty and Mark are excellent hosts. We were able to drop our things well in advance of checkin. It has a comfy memory foam mattress, a small kitchenette (good for breakfast or lunch). Would stay here again for sure

Peaceful Bird Rock Stay
Great Place in the Bird Rock neighborhood of La Jolla with peek a boo views of the ocean. Owners were flexible & great to work with. Close to all ocean activities & great restaurants within walking distance.

Perfect Solo Haven
I traveled alone to San Diego for a long weekend. The La Jolla Cottage by the Sea was perfectly equipped for what I needed: cozy, excellent location, and a BIKE to use- the best amenity! I spent most days on the bike, and Uber/Lyft was easy when it grew dark. It was a wonderful trip; again, this spot was perfect for my solo adventure. Thanks a lot!

Seaside loveliness
We thoroughly enjoyed staying here. The sweet deck with the sound of the sea nearby, cozy king size bed, fabulous walking thru gorgeous neighborhoods, the best coffee ever just down the hill, a bakery that will be remembered in your heart for years, and very kind hosts. We highly recommend.

We will be back :)
We were in San Diego to visit our adult daughter and this quaint, comfy space made our Christmas perfect. It had everything we needed. It’s a quiet neighborhood with a serene pond with a fountain you can hear when the screen door is open. We walked to cool coffee shops, a fun boutique and a neat surf shop - in minutes. Each morning we walked down to town to watch the surfers battle the waves. It was close to all kinds of hikes and adventure spots. The only concern we had initially was that it had a “fold-out” bed. Turns out it was just as comfortable - and large - as our bed at home. We can’t wait to return! Thank you Mark and Marty!

Lovely Spot
Loved the location of the vrbo. Hosts were very kind and easy to communicate with and check in was smooth. Having bikes was a great touch, I wish we had time to use them. I was SO surprised at the size of the bed and how comfortable it was. We also really enjoyed the balcony in the morning for sunrise :) Could have been cleaned a little bit better but that is my only negative comment. Would love to stay here again!

Winter getaway - La Jolla style
This was an amazing little hideout behind a gorgeous house. Although I didn’t get to have much conversation with the house owners, they were most inviting. They had a wonderful dog on the property too, which made the stay just a little sweeter. The backyard was so quiet, and cute for a La Jolla paradise. The locals were friendly, the area was quaint and simple, and the food was delicious. Would love to come back some day.

Serene setting in a lovely neighborhood
Just right in every way, friendly host and perfect setting! The space has a deck with 2 chairs and a cool fishpond below , pretty zen! There's a multi use path nearby that took us everywhere. The village has a little bit of everything and the beach is so close making for the perfect morning walk or run. Highly recommend !

Quiet neighborhood with water feature in backyard that was relaxing to listen to before bed. Property was not easily accessible. Had to drag luggage down pathways covered in small pebbles and up a full set of stairs. Owner did help with luggage upon arrival. Could have used another chair and side table beside bed.

Great location, cozy property
Beautiful property and garden. Second story loft was a bit warm in late July, but with fans and open windows it was nice and cool in the nights. Pull out bed was decently comfortable but big enough to sprawl out. Plenty of amenities like beach towels, laundry baskets, towels, soaps, utensils, etc. would definitely stay again.

The hosts are superb and the room has an open and large feel to it. The back yard is really cute and relaxing. The neighborhood is quiet and everything was top notch! Bikes are an added plus to the property. Thumbs up!

Fun in the sun
We loved our stay. We were close to the beach, parks, great food, and the airport. We were worried about the bed initially because my husband is 6'5". Do not worry a second about the bed. It was so comfortable and we slept well. We spent lots of time on the patio and in the backyard space. Marty was so good to communicate and immediately dealt with any needs we had. We will come again!!!

Great location super helpful host. Best suited to intimate couple as only one sofa bed in studio.
Lovely landscape, gas firepit, ready to use beach cycles, to ride the Pacific Beach boardwalk. . Studio apartment has a Sunny balcony ideal for sitting on, to read or eat breakfast. Great neighborhood walking distance to restaurants and cafes. Super helpful and friendly hosts.

Amazing location and owners
What a lovely property in a very good location . Literally walking distance from coffee shops and restaurants. The people in the neighborhood were very nice as we enjoyed our morning walks to the coffee shop and was able to walk to the beach. Martin was so nice and accommodating as he suggested places to go eat and let us borrow boogie boards, chairs, and bikes during our stay. Amazing owners and extremely kind and responsive. Would absolutely stay there again!

Beautiful studio apartment in Bird Rock!
I rented this apartment by myself while in town for a family wedding in LaJolla. Everything was absolutely perfect! The apartment is awesome, the hosts are so helpful and kind. The neighborhood is great for exploring, but also very close to other attractions in the area!
