Cycle along the trails that head through exotic vegetation and spot the colorful birds and fish dwelling in these scenic wetlands.
Ferradura Lagoon is a picturesque basin of water near the heart of Búzios. Bars, restaurants and an amusement park surround the exotic shoreline of this vast lagoon. Rent a mountain bike from a store in the town center and cycle the perimeter of the lake.
Stroll leisurely along the elegant wooden walkway that traverses the tropical marshes of the lagoon. Tall grass sprouts from the water while verdant hills in the background frame the vista, perfect for a few photos. Spot the eclectic range of birds hopping around the grassy water.
Sit and read a book at one of the white benches facing the water. The secluded spot offers utter serenity, far from the chaos and noise of urban centers. Bring food and drink for a picnic to enjoy on one of the spacious patches of grass along the edges of the lagoon.
Sunbathe on the grass in this tranquil area and cool down with a dip in the water. Walk or cycle along some of the scenic trails that meander through the dense vegetation around the lagoon. Continue your retreat with an overnight stay at one of the inns or hostels bordering the water basin.
Note that the name of the lagoon is Portuguese for Horseshoe, perhaps in reference to the curved shape of Ferradura Beach, which is a couple of blocks south.
Play ball games in the water and bring snorkeling gear for a glimpse of the colorful fish nibbling at your feet. Enjoy snacks and drinks from a bar or dine at one of the restaurants on the beach facing the Atlantic Ocean.
Ferradura Lagoon is a little south of the town center of Búzios. Walk south from the Mangue Pier for about 10 minutes to get here. Make sure to visit other sights in the region, such as the Fórum Courthouse, Búzios City Hall and Radical Parque.
