A café and hotel complex overlook the sandy beach and shrubland making up this arched bay surrounded by a flurry of islands.
Punta Alta is a point of scenic, jagged rocks adjacent to a lovely beach in the northwestern corner of Formentera Island. A café and hotel complex are located on the beach, along which runs a long wooden pathway. Enjoy stunning views of the various islands and coves surrounding the Es Pujols area.
Stroll on the wooden planks of the elevated trail that carries you across the shrubland at the rear of the beach. At the end of the path lies the secluded stretch of golden sand shaped like a horseshoe. Admire the range of light and dark blue and green hues making up the gorgeous bay of the cove.
You can rent a deck chair for use beneath one of the straw umbrellas that decorate the strand. Notice the stray palm trees and grasslands at the rear of the beach and appreciate the rustic feel in this fairly remote setting.
Colorful fishing boats line the shore or are at work on the water. A few charming fishing huts provide a glimpse into the local life and culture in and around Punta Alta.
Head south along Es Pujols Beach to get watersports lessons and rent equipment from the Wet4Fun Center. The tour operator arranges many activities and excursions and has kayaking and windsurfing equipment.
Consider staying overnight at the hotel complex, which has a pool overlooking the bay. A little farther inland is a café, where you can have a meal or sip cocktails. Stay here for the sunset and watch the sky turn crimson.
Visit Punta Alta for free it is open to the public at all times. The point juts out of the eastern side of the strip of land at the northwestern corner of Formentera. The cove is a 15-minute walk northeast from the small village of Es Pujols.
