Helpful staff local to st helper clean room regularly chwcked

Overall good accommodation considering the building is quite old and has been extended. Lots of stairs up and down corridors. Main entrance to lobby up a flight of stairs. Really not suitable for someone with mobility issues. However the staff were very helpful with our luggage. Not impressed by the restaurant evening meal. Carvery style menu with very few vegetables on offer. We found the bar meal menu was better. Fresh cooked to order. Breakfast was good however the grab and go bag we ordered for our early departure was of poor quality. Only 4 items plus coffee in each bag!Didn’t add up to the cost of the breakfast paid for on booking.

Rooms were clean but very outdated. Shower wasn't thermostatically controlled so was hot then cold. Towels were small, old and thin. No air conditioning in the room so was very hot, only a fan moving the hot air around, even though with all the windows open it didn't cool the room and the noise from outside kept you awake. Carpets in the hallway were stained and ripped. The swimming pool had tiles missing around the edge and the bottom of the pool and not heated. The buffet style breakfast wasn't kept full after 9.30am even though breakfast was until 10am, the cooked breakfast was adequate but nothing special, fresh fruit was tinned pears or tinned peaches and a bowl with apples, bananas and oranges. The waffles and pancakes couldn't be warmed in the toaster so they were cold. If you wanted to book dinner in the restaurant you had to let them know by 5pm. If you opened an account, they take £200 from your card straight away and if you have a balance to return, it takes 30 days to refund your money.(doesn't sound like an account then, as you are paying up front). Overall the Hotel looks nice from the outside, but they need to spend some money on bringing the rooms up to date.

The standard room was very poor value for the money!
