Incredible place that my husband and our Boston terrier enjoyed from the comfort of the clean, beautiful place and all accessible communication and attentions walking in nature. a beautiful ranch to treat yourself and enjoy we hope to return soon (we bought fresh eggs and delicious meat)

Winter Outing
My friends and I got together for a winter outing with the cabin as our base. Cindy was great; she was always available and answered our questions in a timely manner. And, yes, we loved the cabin and the hot tub.

Cabin
Nice, clean cabin. Our reason for booking the cabin was for the hot tub. We booked 2 nights. The hot tub was unusable the first night due to the host adding water right as we were checking in. It took all that day and all night to get the hot tub heated up to a normal temperature. So beware. You may or may not get to use the hot tub. It should have been checked prior to our day of arrival. Also beware that there are 2 very steep flights of stairs. One steep stairs going up to the loft bedroom. One very steep set of stairs going down to the hot tub. We were pretty disappointed in our stay.

What this guest does not mention is that I gave them a refund because they did not feel it was warm enough the first night of their stay. They arrived early their first day and I was there checking on the hot tub and adding more minerals and needed to top it off with water. The only reason I think it took longer to warm up is because this was during our super cold weather. She told me it was at 104 the next morning so they were able to enjoy it the second day of their stay.

Peaceful, relaxing weekend
Wonderful cabin. My wife and I spent a relaxing weekend relaxing on the couch, soaking in the hot tub and taking in the scenery. Would definitely recommend!

Anniversary Trip
We stayed here this past weekend and everything about the cabin was amazing! It's not too far of a drive to town and such a peaceful area. Hot tub was amazing! Definitely will come back!

Girls weekend
Beautiful cabin in the woods! The setting is gorgeous and close to hiking a great hiking trail. The kitchen was stocked with sufficient cookware, utensils, dishes (although we couldn't find measuring cups). The hot tub was heavenly and we were blessed one night with spectacular views of and the Milky Way!

Relaxation
We loved our stay at Ellen’s cabin, we went for hiking and relaxing and that is just what we got. There are multiple hiking trails within 30 miles and the cabin was so peaceful. The backyard where the hot tub and fire pit are were surrounded by trees which made it very private.

Perfect cabin in the woods!
Two friends and I met up for a float, and a hike in beautiful Steelville. Ellen’s cabin was a perfect retreat. Ver clean and cozy with plenty of room. The hot tub is a lovely bonus.

Great Trip - 4th year in a row
This was our 4th stay at Gill Ridge and it did not disappoint! Host Cindy is great - Cabin is charming and super clean. Love the Hot Tub. We will be back again next year! Great Stay - Highly recommend....

Great Stay
We really enjoyed our stay! The cabin is between St James and Steelville. Just down the road is a river crossing you can swim or float at. The property is nice and private. Listing is how it is described. Check in and check out are very easy.

Comfortable and Cozy Cabin
This is the second time we've stayed at this cabin. We will continue to stay here as long as it's available! It's so comfortable and cozy. Easy to find, amenities are great. We've rented this cabin for float trips during the summer, but we may even rent this cabin during winter months. Highly recommend!

Great Home Would Stay Again
Beautiful home- would definitely stay again. The only thing keeping it from perfection was the heavy dust on the ceiling fans and rafters- normally you would not notice but the overlook from the upstairs to the living room has you looking right at it- this has to be the only oversight because everything else was fantastic- The jacuzzi was relaxing and enjoyable- we slept great. Thank you for a nearly perfect stay.

Cozy cabin
Cozy cabin not far from shopping and wineries. Enjoyed rafting down the Mermac river. Nice place for a vacation or long weekend. Plenty to do in the surrounding area’s.

Great Cabin in the Woods
We enjoyed our week in this awesome cabin. Used the hot tub everyday. The place was clean and the beds were comfortable. Everything you need is there. It rained most days, but we played the games and watched the movies. Thanks for sharing the cabin, Cindy.

Gem in nature surrounding
Perfect option to 100% relax and hear nature. Quiet, especially evening/night time. Comforable all the way around. Lower back deck sits the tub surrounded by a tree canopy. At night, it doesnt any better.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. I’m so pleased you enjoyed your time at our log cabin. I do want to address the mileage to the river. I know if you walk down to the river, it definitely can seem longer coming back up the hill. It’s actually just a little over a mile so, it makes it easier to say a mile. I know it wasn’t a big deal but, I’ve decided to quit putting that in the description. Don’t want a future guest thinking I’m misrepresenting 😁

Too Short Getaway
We had an easy enough time finding and getting in. We drove in from Chicago for a too short weekend trip. It was very private and relaxing. We really enjoyed the space and all of us would love to come back for longer.

Very relaxing
My fiance and I stayed the weekend for a valentine getaway. Very nice cabin with everything that you need. Location is great, close to the town of Steelville and also St.James. Will definitely be returning in the summer with our kids to take advantage of the river access and float rental that is about a mile down the road from the cabin. Thank you for sharing it with us!

Thank you for posting your review, we appreciate it very much. Glad you enjoyed your stay. The float on the Upper Meramec River is beautiful and family friendly. We took our grandchildren on it many times. What we always enjoyed about that float, it’s not crazy busy. On a weekday you can have it to yourself. Hope you can make it back, sometime.

Wonderful private cabin!
We rented this cabin as an anniversary getaway. It was a really nice cabin. The location was private and the cabin was clean. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. And the mineral hot tub was wonderful. So nice to not smell a bunch of chlorine while soaking. They had everything we needed.

Peaceful getaway
We loved this sweet cabin. Spent lots of time front porch sitting, in the hot tub, walking down the quiet road. Beds and furniture comfortable. Great TV and fast wifi for working. Clean! Everything we needed. Property manager kind and responsive. And let us bring our poodle which made our week perfect! Highly recommend this property.

Cabin was clean and well equipped (but you need a new can opener). The location was great. We highly recommend Peaceful Bend Winery. The privacy was nice. The cabin needs some updating considering the price. We had a great time.

Short stay
Layout of bedrooms was strange. Two in the basement which was dark and not inviting. Best bedroom is upstairs and the stairs are steep and hard to see because they are blond wood that blend into each other. For an older adult I consider them dangerous.

Sorry that you were not happy with the bedroom layout. I have the description of the layout on the listing so guest know before booking. The master suite is in the loft and the steps might seem steeper then you are used to. The extra bedrooms are in the lower level. The bedrooms in the lower level each have a large window to let in light. There are steps, up are down to get to the bedrooms The main level is a large living room, powder room and a large eat in kitchen.

Ellen's log cabin
We had a nice weekend visit to Ellen's log cabin. It was a little farther to my son's wedding venue in St James than I expected, but it was able to accommodate 7 people. I wish we had been there to visit our favorite trout fishing spot because it was very close to that. I would definitely stay there again.

Perfect for a weekend on the river
My husband has driven by this house on the way to a float drop-in and was excited it was open the weekend we wanted to visit. It was perfect. Great spot, nice house and such an easy in/out process. The ride home was a discussion on when we could return for a longer stay!
