Colorado Avalanche Ticket Information

The Colorado Avalanche are the only team in NHL history to win a Stanley Cup the year after relocating, and the wins keep coming. Originally located in Quebec City and known as the Nordiques, the Avalanche moved to Denver in 1995 and immediately found success thanks to the fortuitous trade of Eric Lindros for a king’s ransom of players, picks, and cash. Despite their early success, the Avalanche haven’t made it to the NHL Playoffs since 2014, but this year is different because of stellar play from point-leader Nathan MacKinnon and veteran leadership from team captain Gabriel Landeskog. Other Central Division teams like the Minnesota Wild and Dallas Stars are also vying for a spot in the postseason, so each Avalanche game has an impact on who makes it in and who doesn’t. Be sure to get your Colorado Avalanche hockey tickets before the team takes it all the way to the cup.

Canadian Origins & Mile High Glory

The Quebec Nordiques joined the NHL in 1979 and had a number of years of success that finally dried up in the ‘90s. After finishing at the bottom of their division and the entire league throughout the early part of the decade, the team fell on hard financial times, which led to them relocating to Denver. In 1995, the newly minted Colorado Avalanche got off to a great start with a win in their first game against the rival Detroit Red Wings, who they later went on to defeat in the Western Conference Finals. In the Stanley Cup Finals, the Rocky Mountain squad swept the Florida Panthers thanks to spectacular play from Joe Sakic, the winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy. The Colorado Avalanche went on to win their division each of the next 7 seasons, including 2001 when they made it back to the Stanley Cup. Joe Sakic once again provided plenty of  points while Peter Forsberg, one of the players who came over in the trade for injury-prone Eric Lindros, used his leadership to bring the team all the way to the championship where they met the formidable New Jersey Devils. After battling it out for 7 games, the Avalanche came out on top. Since that victory, the team has been competitive in their division and have made it back to the playoffs quite a few times, but they have fallen short of the ultimate prize.
