The beginning of Maroon 5 dates back to 1994 when Levine, Carmichael, Madden, and original drummer Ryan Dusick first came together as Kara’s Flowers when they were still in high school. Following a self-released album, they signed with Reprise Records, but the band parted ways after their next album garnered less-than-stellar response.
