Born to Perform

Patricia Yearwood was born on September 19, 1964 in the small town of Monticello, Georgia. Growing up Trisha and her sister were very active in musicals and choir groups, crediting country legends Patsy Cline and Hank Williams for their love of the genre. Throughout high school Trisha had dreams of being an accountant, putting her music on the back burner. Upon graduating from high school, she moved to Nashville where she was seeking to become an agent for aspiring musicians. She quickly realized that this was something that she was not meant to be doing so she changed her course of action and began singing again. She received her associate’s degree from Young Harris College and then went on to attend the University of Georgia, only to drop out within her first year. Confused as to where to go from there, Trisha landed an internship with MTM records, who would after a few months of her working there hired her as a full-time employee. During her time working with the record company she used the company’s resources in her free time to record demo tapes. She would also volunteer herself to sing background vocals for new and upcoming performers, one of which ended up being Garth Brooks. During her time working with Brooks they would form a friendship which allowed her to sign her first record deal with MCA Nashville Records in 1990. She also served as the opening act for Garth Brooks’ 1991 national tour.

Launch to Fame

Yearwood released her first album in 1991 with the leading single “She’s in Love with the Boy” becoming an instant success, shooting her right to the number one spot on the Billboard Country Chart. The self-titled album would earn Yearwood her first Platinum title, selling well over a million copies worldwide. With her first album effectively launching her career, Yearwood has been in the spotlight ever since. She has released over thirteen studio albums, received three Grammy Awards, and gone on several nationwide tours. In 2005 she married longtime friend Garth Brooks, effectively becoming half of country music’s favorite couple.
