From being one of the first dynasties of the American League to becoming the team that helped to reinvent 21st-century baseball, the Oakland A’s know how to deliver a terrific game. Whether you’re watching them at home in the Bay Area or playing on the road, Athletics tickets are a surefire way to experience the legacy and electrifying play of one of the most storied names in the sport.
Created in 1901 alongside the American League, the Athletics got their start in Philadelphia, as competition for the National League’s Phillies. By the late 1920s, players like Al Simmons Jimmie Foxx built a powerhouse that could rival Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and the New York Yankees almost run for run.
But the Great Depression cost the team most of its stars and began a vicious cycle of cost-cutting that stretched into the 1950s, when they moved west to Kansas City. That led to more years of struggle defined by the team trading most of its best players to the Yankees, before a slow rebuilding that showed results just in time for the move to Oakland in 1968.
The A’s reclaimed their former glory on the West Coast, bringing their record to 9 World Series titles and 15 pennants by 1990. After more struggles to close out the century, the team became a new kind of sensation by introducing the nation to moneyball and building one of the most cost-effective franchises in the game.
Still regulars in the postseason, the Athletics bring a signature brand of smart play to deliver for fans across the Bay. Whether they’re facing off against the San Francisco Giants or chasing their next spot in the MLB Playoffs, an A’s game makes Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum the place to be for one of the best things to do in town.
The Oakland A's (Athletics) were originally established in 1901 as the Philadelphia Athletics. The team would move to Kansas City in 1955 before settling in Oakland in 1968.
Despite recent hardships the Oakland A's have appeared in the World Series a total of 14 times, and won the championship nine times, making them tied for third for all-time wins by a team..
Stomper, the team's mascot dates back to their days in Philadelphia when New York Giants manager John McGraw criticized the A's profitability and said A's owner Benjamin Shibe "had a white elephant on his hands." A's manager Connie Mack defiantly adopted the elephant msacot and presented McGraw with a stuffed animal elephant at the start of the 1905 World Series.
The A's have a fierce rivalry with the San Francisco Giants. They play an annual interleague series known as the "Bay Bridge Series"
