What you can expect

On this tour, we'll delve into the captivating world of “fileteado”, an artistic style that emerged in early 20th-century Buenos Aires. The term, rooted in the Latin prefix “filo” meaning “tread,” denotes an ornamental form that revolutionized the city's visual landscape. It all began when Italian immigrants, employed by chariot shops, introduced novel lines and vibrant hues to vehicle decoration.

As we explore the streets of San Telmo, this expressive art form will come to life, adorning every corner with its distinctive strokes. Our journey starts at El Federal, a renowned Notable Bar of the City of Buenos Aires, where we'll immerse ourselves in the ambiance and gain initial insights into the concepts behind fileteado. Join us as we uncover the history and beauty of this unique artistic expression.

Our next destination is the Casa Carlos Gardel Museum, offering a unique chance to step into the former residence of the renowned tango singer, composer, and actor. During our visit, we'll learn about the fascinating history of his home and discover details about its previous inhabitants.

Finally, we will head towards the Conventillo Cultural Abasto to attend a Porteño Fileteado class with a professional Fileteador who will teach us this art while we immerse ourselves in its history and secrets. At the end of the class, we'll be able to take our creation home as a souvenir!
