The oasis of Douz, also called the “Gate of the Desert”, the large crossing point of the Sahara, known as a typical nomadic village and famous for its high-quality dates, lies on the edge of the Erg Oriental, a sea of dunes that stretches from Algeria via Tunisia to Libya extends. In Douz we have a meal together and if you want you can buy a turban. After dinner we drive about 90 minutes directly into the desert, where the Bedouin team with the dromedaries is already waiting for us. The first night's camp is being prepared and it's time to set up tents. If you prefer to sleep in the great outdoors, under the stars, look for a nice place to put your sleeping bag.

After a 1.5 hour drive we encounter the cave dwellings of the Berbers (aboriginal people), the so-called “Troglodyte Houses”. Only a few people have retained their original way of living and living. We can visit one of these houses to get an idea of the Berber way of life. Taking photos and asking questions is always welcome with the owners of this “attraction”.
