Depart Frankfurt in the morning, start the drive through the Spessart to Würzburg. Passing the university town, the Tauber Valley, the wine growing region of the Romantic Road, will be reached.
Weikersheim is famous for its Renaissance Castle, dating back in the 17th and 18th century. Worth to mention is the “Knights Hall" (Rittersaal). The palace garden is laid out in the style of Versailles. <br />Röttingen is a small wine village and the first European town of Germany. The landmark of Röttingen is the baroque town hall. <br />Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a MUST when traveling in Europe. Famous sights are the medieval town wall, the historical market place, the town hall, the Gothic Parish Church of St. Jakob, and the Plönlein, an area featuring a colorful timber-frame house. Worth to mention: German Christmas Museum at Käthe Wohlfarths Christmas Village, Medieval Crime and Torture Museum. The battlements can be traversed for a length of approx. 2.5 km.
On the way back to Frankfurt fotostop in Würzburg at the Residence, the prince bishops palace (1720/1744), UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981.
