Ideal location

Ideally suited for people wanting to visit all the major sites of Athens. The rooftop restaurant is a treat in that you have views on both sides. Staff are helpful and attentive and fluent in English - rooms are clean and functional with comfy beds, would readily recommend for short city break

Very nice hotel with a great view of the Acropolis

Posted Oct 17, 2014
Pros: It was a very brief walk to the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum. Lots of restaurants, etc. nearby. It was perfect for a short visit!
Cons: The shower in our room needed minor repair. I notified the staff and they were responsive.
Location: Visit the Acropolis!
We stayed only one night at the Athens Gate, but it turned out to be an excellent choice. Somewhat unprepossessing on the outside, the room was elegant and clean - very well done.

Great Location & Views

Posted Oct 16, 2014
We arrived early in the morning after leaving our cruise ship. Our room wasn't ready, but the hotel provided storage for our bags so we could head straight for the Parthenon before the crowds arrived (they also provided bag storage after checkout so we could have lunch before our flight). It's a short walk to the Parthenon and Plaka shops, and an even shorter walk to the Acropolis Museum. The hotel also upgraded us to a room with a balcony and wonderful view of the Parthenon and Athens Museum. Although the museum top floor appeared to be dark glass in the daytime, at night we could see into the top floor of the museum, as well as the beautifully lit Parthenon at night. The top floor of the hotel is a bar/restaurant with superb views of both the Acropolis on one side and the Temple of Zeus on the opposite side. Outside tables are simply fabulous in good weather! Breakfast is also served here, and offers an excellent selection of breakfast items along with wonderful views to start your morning. Many thanks to the staff (especially John and Amalia!) for providing us with such a wonderful stay!

Pros: Walking distance to places of interest
Cons: Attitude by Reception. When asked to confirm flight details, pointed to Computer to do it myself.
Location: Previously mentioned location, and proximity of sights.
Hotel is in excellent location for viewing ruins, hop-on-hop-off bus. Close by are eating places, Museum, all within walking distance.

Close to the action.

Posted Oct 14, 2014
Pros: The hotel is close to the main sites, a lot of restaurants and the tourist shops.
Cons: The elevators are very small and the indicators showing if they are going up and down are not always correct.
Location: The main sites for Athens are all within walking distance. Also around the corner from the hotel is the main tourist areas with the shops and dining.
The hotel is close to the action and the sites. Most are all within walking distance. The restaurant has a great view but the food is average. Though better than some of the restaurants in the tourist areas. One warning is the extremely small elevators. At most you can fit 4 people or 2 people and 2 bags. Only fitting 4 people means you are always waiting for one you can fit into or just taking the stairs.

Boutique hotel like service

Posted Oct 13, 2014
I really enjoyed my stay at Athens Gate Hotel! It is perfectly located in the centre of many of the main attractions of the city. You can easily walk to many of them. The hotel staff are all very friendly and helpful and make you instantly feel at ease. You feel like you are in a boutique hotel because of the care and attention to detail. The actual hotel is beautiful and modern but very comfortable! The lobby lounge and bar are great as well as the rooftop restaurant/lounge. If you want a quiet room ask to be on the backside of the hotel (the front rooms have a great view but it is loud with the main road below). Also note that free wifi is in the lobby/bar and on the rooftop restaurant only. For wifi in your room there is a charge of 5 euro/hour.
