Overall we had a wonderful stay. In fact the staff help including in particular Miguel's help during our stay was invaluable. We had misplaced a bag in one of the pyramid locations and realised only after reaching the hotel late in the night. The hotel staff and Miguel with their personal efforts helped to track down the bag and get it back to us the next day. Otherwise our whole vacation would have been spoiled.
The hotel breakfast was very good with peacocks and other birds walking around the tables. My children enjoyed feeding the birds. Similarly the kitchen staff were able to customize the menu for our vegetarian choices. We were struck by the honesty and enthusiasm of all the staff and people in Mayaland to serve the guests. We missed seeing the planetarium show due to our preoccupation with the lost bag. But have heard excellent things about the show.
One thing though the hotel is a very old style colonial building with interior decoration reflecting those times. But we really enjoy that decor and setting so had no problems. The early morning bird calls from all the trees surrounding the place are a refreshing way to wake up. And the best part is that with the back entrance to the chichen itza ruins we can get a head start over the tour bus crowds and get some exclusive time in the ruins.
