It's just ok

Posted Jan 15, 2015
The hotel was renamed University Inn and went under some serious improvements. However, there are still some flaws. The pillows has hair and the blankets have stains and burn marks. I found some small insect remains (possibly a cockroach) on the bed. On the bright side, the bathroom was somewhat clean. Wifi was average and there was a small fridge and a microwave. Not so far from the hotel is Jack in the box. It takes 10 minutes to walk to CSUC campus. For $60 a night, this could be a good temporary place to stay while looking for an apartment.

This Is Not Vagabond

Posted Jan 14, 2015
Pros: Fast WIFI.
Cons: Everything.
Location: Downtown eateries and Bidwell Mansion are all within a short walk from the motel.
This motel is no longer part of the Vagabond chain. The room was run down. Old tube TV. The bathroom was deplorable...mold on the shower tiles...toilet not firmly attached to the floor, etc. Although the WIFI was fast and the location was close to downtown attractions, we won't be repeat patrons. Suspicious old man lurking around the front office made my wife very uncomfortable.

Outdated, unclean, smelled of smoke/pot (in a "smoke free" room)...reminded me of a frat house following a college party...

Nope

Loud party next door staff refused to handle. Terrible quality of room. Continental breakfast was weak coffee and packaged cinnamon buns. Overall bad experience

Downtown, but do not recommend

Posted Oct 30, 2014
Cheap rate, hotel clerks were friendly, room was ok, bathroom was dirty though. Piece of lettuce on floor, marks on walls, etc. Room stunk like cigarettes. Door was hard to open. Dirty, cushioned stool in between our door and the other room for some reason, so made it hard to get into our room. Shady people lurking about outside of our room. People next door and above us partying all night up until we checked out of our room the very next morning. Slamming doors, yelling, etc. Didn't complain because we were afraid to. Upon leaving in the morning, looked like more shady things going on outside of our room. Overall, if you value your sleep and you're safety, do not stay here. Had I known it would have been that bad, would have paid the extra money to stay at a better place downtown. The hotel changed its name by the way.

Ehh, anout what I expected

It was about what I expected. No frills just a place to sleep and shower. Highlight was the San Francisco Giants won that night.

Vagabond/University City Inn beware.

First of all it is no longer called Vagabond - name had changed so had to ask if I was at the right place. When I got out of the car I already felt uncomfortable. Paint was peeling off pillars, and overall appearance was iffy. When we walked into the room the smell of smoke was overwhelming so they gave us a different room which was better. However, I did not have all the sheets on my bed so was right under blanket, there was trash under the beds and the shower tile was dirty (which easily wiped off). When you turned on the fan in the bathroom smokey air poured in. While every room is supposed to be smoke free we saw the person who got our first room smoking inside his room. Upon return to the hotel Friday night, the police were there due to some problem with a guest and an external person. We checked out after the first night. Other relatives were upstairs in a different room and they had cockroaches in their purse in the morning.

Awful. Never again. Great location. If they renovated it, would be a good place to stay possibly.
