    Geography

California is very much a land of contrasts with varied geography that runs the gamut from parched, sunbaked deserts in the south to temperate, misty forests and snow-capped mountain ranges in the north. The state is home to portions of the beautiful Sierra Nevada and Cascade Ranges, including the towering spire of Mount Whitney, which stands as the tallest peak in the Lower 48. The Coast Ranges, famed for the towering coast redwoods that thrive in the mountainous terrain, run along the western portion of the state. Between the mountain ranges, the Central Valley is home to both bucolic farmlands and inland cities such as Sacramento. Bordering the Pacific Ocean, the western coast of California is world-renowned for its unique terrain and stunning vistas. With so many different climates and environments, there truly are resorts in California for just about everyone. Let Expedia.com help you find the perfect fit for your West Coast escape.

The hotel had been nicely renovated. Rooms are impeccable, except for the windows glass exterior... the lobby and bar ate shy compared to the rooms.

One complaint. Ordered room service: a $16 Caesar salad. It was small, but that was ok. There was a $5 delivery charge and a $5.12 service charge plus tax. Maybe I'm naive, but my $16 salad was $28 plus by the time it reached me before a tip.

"Nice, old-school luxury near air force base."
I liked my stay at The Del in late summer. Lovely old iconic main building, in a gorgeous setting, with some wonderful staff. The gastro experiences were A rated - the Sunday brunch is a must ($96 per adult is fair if you're prepared to let any dietary restrictions slack). The wait staff are truly exceptional and they made the week memorable for me and my 6 y/o daughter. The pool is small but it works - most people seemed to just want to lay in the sun so it was mostly kids in there with the odd parent bobbing around. It never felt crowded to me. When it was busy there were lots of interesting people to watch. The shops in the hotel are good - they take up a lot of space in the basement and feel like another layer to the hotel experience. The shops and dining options in the town are good. Leroys and Tent City were great for brunch. There's a laundromat around the corner from TC. The air force flybys (sometimes every 3 minutes, 300ft directly over the beach) was a big let-down. The noise is obnoxious at the beach and in the open aired restaurants, it's off putting. The resort has been added to over the years. We stayed in a more generic "resort room". The car-park view was a big disappointment - the receptionist there tried quite hard to upsell me to a partial ocean view. The room itself was ho-hum - old carpet, ugly ceiling patches, old fridge, regular cable, mediocre room-service food, off-set a smidge by great service.

Housekeeping was excellent. Great location. Central to BART, cable car, shops and restaurants within walking distance. Very busy and popular location. Ideally located next to a San Francisco information kiosk. Check in was really slow. In general only two staff members at desk. Concierge on duty was not knowledgeable of any ground travel options except a taxi. Everything had an extra charge. No non-pay computer access. No late check out option. Window noise consistent with in city stays. Side chairs extremely deep. Several electrical outlets did not have power.

Reasonable hotel, equidistant from many destinations around San Francisco. For the first night our booked room wasn't yet available, so they placed us in a larger suite facing Market Street, which was quite noisy until late at night. Our room for the rest of the stay was facing 8th which was more reasonable for street noise.
