Wonderful Place! We enjoyed the comfort of the home. The house is set up to where everyone enjoys each other’s company. People also can slide away have privacy to themselves. Upstairs Bed is hard but the other beds were nice. Rooms are clean and non cluttered. We liked having extra beds available. This is a wonderful place to stay.

The property was ideal for our family gathering. Very comfortable and equipped with everything we could have needed to make our stay enjoyable. The personal touches added by the owner were evidence of the affection they had for the house. Gracious of them to share their family home with our family for a few days.

All good. One complaint, sewer gas back up on main floor would choke a horse. We had to keep some windows open. Even our dog had a good time. We would do it again.

It was a very nice place for our family.
The house was really nice with the exception of a sewer smell coming from the downstairs bathroom. Maybe the wax seal needs to be replaced on the toilet. Whatever the cause, this needs to be addressed. The location gets a three due to the condition of the road in the winter. To be fair it is mentioned you need 4 wheel drive or chains and winter driving skills. No joke. The location otherwise is great.

Great Family Getaway
We have been staying in VRBO and other rental properties for 15+ years. This rental is in the top 5 for our family. The nearby hiking is excellent - a wide range of options for every level of hiker. We did not ski but the skiing is 5 minutes away. The cabin was very comfortable for 5 adults and our dogs. It is well appointed - linens, kitchen and parking for 3 cars. Plenty of room for doing puzzles, watching movies and dining. The master bedroom loft with the master bath is clean and well decorated “Colorado cabin” style. The two bedrooms downstairs are well decorated as well. The road from the highway to the cabin is a dirt road, hilly and windy. When they say you need 4wd in the winter- they mean it. We have rented our own condo for several years on a different platform and had just a few little tweaks for the cabin. The first floor bathroom has a septic smell that needs to be addressed. We kept the door closed and kept the fan on and that took care of it most the time. At night when all the lights were on and there was cooking and the dishes washer was going, the electric circuit blew for the back bedrooms and the kitchen lights. Easy to turn back on at the circuit breaker but worth a look. The last tweak would be to have more room in the kitchen cabinets for renters to put food away. There is literally no room for groceries (that did not go in the refrigerator) and we had to put some on the counter. Just a little rearranging of the cabinets worked. Overall we had a fabulous time and we would highly recommend this property and will rent it again if we go back to the area.

Relaxing Getaway
We had a lovely time this week at Heaven's Gate. The cabin is in a very remote neighborhood 30 mins north of Durango which made it convenient for trips to Silverton and Ouray. A couple of things about this place that prevented me from providing it 5 stars. This property is not managed locally which causes a delay when and if you have an issue with the property. The code for the dumpster did not work. We didn't find this out until we had two bags of trash in our car that we were planning to dispose of on our way to Silveton. We called the management company in Salt Lake who couldn't help us and had to call the local site manager to call us back. We knew there would be a delay so we ended up taking the trash to the gas station down the road. The local management rep called us back 45 mins later and told us that there was an issue with the dumpster and that we should just find another place to dispose of it which we had already done. If he already knew that there was an issue, why didn't they reach out to there renters and notify us? It's a good thing we didn't wait until the morning or our departure to take out the trash! Regarding the cabin, it was FULL of flies when we arrived. I've actually never seen so many flies in one place in my life. We were killing flies the entire week of our stay. Also, the cold water in the main bathroom sink only works for a min or two. After that, it's all hot water so if you're not quick to brush your teeth, you'll need to use the kitchen sink like I did all week. Hopefully the owner can check on this as it seems like a small fix. Overall, we enjoyed our time at Heaven's Gate and would recommend it for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway in a remote setting near Durango.

Location, scenery but take books and scented candles.
Location is awesome; very close to Purgatory resort and convenient to hiking locations, as well as in between Durango and Silverton. Daytrips were fun and gorgeous. We were given the wrong code so check-in was rough. There was a burn ban and we had no idea even though we asked about wood for fire pit. The bathroom downstairs had a terrible odor which also lead into bedrooms downstairs. Internet is very slow.

Beautiful Mountain Home and worked well for our family!
We had a great stay at this beautiful mountain home. Everything was clean and in good working order. I want to thank the owner, Ginger, who took the time to reach out to me just before we were heading to CO and remind us of the recent big snow storm, and that 4 x4 and/or chains were a must. Would highly recommend this property and would rent it again in the future. Thank you, Chris

Heaven’s Gate was beautiful and we loved spending Christmas there!
The cabin was beautiful! The large windows that overlook the mountains, and the fireplace were the perfect setting for our Christmas vacation. Ginger was super responsive with all of our questions, and was very accommodating to let us check in early when we arrived. The cabin has all that you would need for a vacation with your family! The location 1 mile from Purgatory Resort is perfect for winter and summer activities. And Lake Purgatory at the bottoms of the street is absolutely beautiful! I highly recommend this place, and we will be back!

Family Ski Vacation
My family and I chose Ginger's log cabin for its beauty and location. We were so impressed by the location on the mountain side and 10 min drive to Purgatory Ski resort that it could not have been better. The large cabin was beautiful inside and out and our family of 7 was quite comfortable. Coffee in the morning while watching the sun come up against the mountain range to crackling fires at night while we prepared dinner and played games with the kids, it was a wonderful time. Downtown Durango was only 30 min away and offered plenty of daytime and nighttime entertainment. 4 wheel drive or at least front wheel drive is highly recommended. A great time was had by all. Will definitely be back! Thanks Clayton & Amy

Lovely home in a beautiful setting!
My husband, 2 kids, mother and brother enjoyed our stay at this cozy cabin. Plenty of room for our group, all the amenities we needed. The surrounding area was absolutely beautiful and perfect for fishing and hiking. It was worth the drive outside of Durango, and was still close enough for a trek into town for shopping and a couple meals. Owner was very nice and accommodating.

Great vacation!
We had an awesome time at this cabin and everything was as advertised. Mountain biking Hermosa Creek and off the lifts at Purgatory were very convenient. Paddling Columbine Lake was pleasant. Durango was close enough, too, and even Mesa Verde was a reasonable jaunt. The kids (and I) had a great time trouncing in the wild area around the cabin and the deck was always a joy. The air was crisp and quiet. Ginger was an absolute pleasure to work with, too!
