Lombardy Alps, Italy Hotel Rooms at the Independent

Nice hotel room, convenient underground parking. It's a bit out of town, not more than a few hundred meters but it may be a consideration. The rooms were fairly spacious though and the restaurant decent enough with friendly staff. I would go back.

This is a beautiful old hotel in the heart of Bormio. It has convenient access to both the Bormio Terme baths and to a pizzeria that has very good food. The staff at the hotel was very helpful, and were able to use English to communicate, since my Italian is minimal. This was the best hotel that I stayed at in my three weeks in Italy, I would recommend it in a heartbeat.

Excellent location for skiers using carusello 3000 ski area. Very good food and friendly staff.

We didn't know anything about this hotel (or where it was really located) before booking through Expedia. It showed up on our radar with a good price and good TripAdvisor reviews. We weren't disappointed! We absolutely loved our stay here... we even extended it by a day. This isn't any ordinary hotel... it's run by a wonderful family that truly seem to enjoy their jobs and it shows in the way they treat their guests. A quick example : upon learning of my wife's gluten intolerance, they made special trips to the store to make sure she had all that she needed for supper and breakfast. Talk about service! The hotel itself is very modern and is very well appointed. Rooms are great with balconies facing the beautiful mountains (kinda hard not to, since they're surrounded by them). The location is also great, situated in a little village between the Gavia and Stelvio mountain passes and close to the city of Bormio and the thermal baths (which we enjoyed following Alberto's suggestion). All in all a great place to spend a few days. Would definitely stay here again!

Having visited on a number of occasions, we have always enjoyed our stay.

My family and I (me, my wife and our children, 13 and 17) stayed for 3 nights at the Hotel San Carlo in August 2006. Overall it was a very spatious, clean room. The unit included a nice bathroom and small deck. The beds were comfortable. The owners of the hotel are quite helpful and are willing to give directions as well as offer transportation schedules, etc. Not only was our room exceptional, the meals couldn't have been better. We were served several traditional courses and a delicious dessert for dinner and the breakfast was a buffet assortment of breads, cakes, jam and fruit as well as coffee and hot cocoa. I would definitely stay here again.

We had a nice stay at this hotel. The management was directly involved with the service. Breakfast was good too. Staff was very accomodating and friendly. Would definitely stay there again I will also recommend the Bernina Express from Tirano to St. Moritz. This hotel is just about 10 minutes by car to the Tirano train Station Thanks Simona!!!

One of the best hotels I've stayed in! Having visited Livigno skiing in the winter, we (a couple) wanted to try mountain biking in the summer but wanted a holiday that was more than simply a biking holiday and Lac Salin did not disappoint. The rooms were incredibly spacious and comfortable with Sky tv with English channels, free wifi and a well stocked mini bar. The breakfast options were so extensive you felt it utterly necessary to have a 3 course breakfast every day. Freshly made pastries and cakes, freshly squeezed juices, omelette, cheeses, cereals, fruits, yogurts.... I could go on, the choice was vast and of the highest quality. The bar was well stocked with great views of the mountains and a great selection of whiskys and wine. The spa was an actual spa, the kind you pay for to go for a day not the usual kind you find at hotels which claim to have a 'spa' only to find a tiny pool and sauna. You were provided with gowns in your room for use in the spa. We used the services of the biking tours which were very reasonably priced and provided a great day out. Livigno itself is a fabulous town with great shops, bars and plenty to do for those not wanting to be so active. As a duty free location the prices are very good both in the shops and in the bars and restaurants. Would recommend drinks at Bivio in the centre and food at Bellavista in the San Rocco area. For me the best pizzas are at La Locanda at the bottom end of town.

Nice hotel, good location. It's a 15 minute walk to the base of the cable car, but the owner will shuttle you there and back. Owners have some English - enough. The price is good. My only complaint is that the interior walls are thin and the other guests were extremely noisy. Kids running up and down the hallways, shouting until very late. I'll take ear plugs next time!
