"Guy running the place has knowledge that can make your stay bounce from great to greatest. Yes he has some rules but his place for three days cost me less then one night at Prop 19 in Kona and was a lot better stay. But that side of the island is family more original Hawaiian they are Community oriented. You hear Mahalo and they mean it. The people care about you when you seem lost and they walk over and ask what is wrong. At Big Island you can gain an experience that you will not get on the tourist side of the island. So this Is what you do gain there."

"We really enjoyed the rainforest retreat. We had a lot of rain so didnt get to enjoy the outside as much as we would have liked. House had all of the amenities you would ever need. Only complaint is the center cushion in the couch was broken, but there were 2 other comfortable chairs to sit in."

"This location was the perfect spot for an off-the-beaten-path experience! It’s got a cafe, mini farm, hot tub/sauna, a nursery, and so much more. We only stayed one night in one of the cabins and it was excellent. You can hear the rains and the forest sounds right outside your window. The people there were also so friendly, inviting, and warm. "

"The house was so comfortable, clean and had everything we needed for a family of five, even snorkel gear and a cooler for day trips to the beach! (30 minute drive.) FYI The house is located in a real neighborhood, not a touristy condo association. Barking dogs, ferrel pigs and fireworks are a part of everyday life."

"As some of the property was beautiful, it was also very very muddy. Ants all over the first room we stayed in at the lodge, the cabin we booked was supposedly double booked and we were put in a dry cabin for the same price…. staff offered fresh juices and vegan meals for the major inconvenience but the juice bar wasn’t open and the staff rudely demanded we tell them 24 hours in advance if we wanted food or juice that we had to tell them. Staff demanded I tell them when I left or arrived at the property. We were also kept up very late (~11pm) from very loud music/bass and the music was making the power flicker & lights flash from Friday night “bee dance” that started before 6pm. All the staff we saw in the mornings never said hi, avoided eye contact and seemed pretty groggy/hungover. Upon leaving, we saw the mama boar in a really small rusted cage while all other animals (including piglets) were left free roaming on the property. I would go back just for the birds and all other animals, but the staff lacks kindness and respect. They were very disrespectful considering the error with the double booking was through THEIR third party. "

"Website descriptions are accurate. Property was easy to find. House was clean and tidy. Hosts leave a folder filled with helpful information about local sites and restaurants. We enjoyed our stay."

"Great little home that met our needs. Hosts were attentive and quickly fixed a bed that needed attention. Had all the basic kitchen needs, lots of ice in the freezer, sand toys, snorkeling gear, shampoo and conditioner. Especially loved access to a washer and dryer, which is so helpful when on a trip with little kids! In a super quiet (if you don't count the coqui frogs) neighborhood. A little bit out of the way from Hilo, but the traffic isn't bad and the price was great!"
