Great Birthday Getaway

My 5 night stay at Hotel on the Cay was great for what I needed (a place to rest my head and a beach to lay out on). Sara and her staff were very friendly and accommodating. The room I stayed in could use a good deal of updating but clean nonetheless. The location was perfect: your own private island oasis, yet town was a short ferry ride away. Overall I was pleased with my experience.

Hotel needs updating

The hotel needs updating and the surrounding ground needs lawn services. The rooms are outdated, and pest control. I spent one night at this hotel and I don't think I would recommend it to any of my family or friends.

Only issue was my return trip to hotel,after the fiery stops its daytime hours it is on call for pick-up On one perticular occasion it never came to get us even after various attempts so we were stranded all night 2am until 5a that they finally answered the call and picked us up

Paradise

Pros: Location and grounds, the views. That house keeping is not knocking on your door every day. We let them know when we wanted service.
Cons: Update the rooms with new beds and bedding. Brighten the paint colors. New tiles on floors.
Location: Location is great! Nice beach, close to shops, bars and restaurants, but yet separated by the harbor for privacy and a sense of security.
We were disappointed when we entered our room, it was dated and not up to the standard of many places we have stayed. Getting to the hotel was a bit of a challenge also, as it was 10:00pm and we had a rental car. There is not any designated parking for the Cay so you must try to find a parking place close that is not a 2 hour only. Then we had to figure where to meet the boat to take us to the Cay and drag our suitcases across the Fort lawn to the wharf. All of this became a faint memory in the morning when we awoke to a beautiful view, beautiful grounds and a lovely beach, all on this “guest only” Island. We quickly realized why we were there, it was not for the room, it was for Paradise. The room was nice enough for a place to sleep and shower. There was plenty of hot water (bring your own shampoo) and each room has a balcony with a beautiful view which we utilized for coffee each morning (bring your own coffee and filters) and a night cap each night. Being separated from downtown by a 2 minute boat ride was also nice, for security and privacy, but if you are a tipper bring lots of 1 dollar bills! We snorkeled many locations on Saint Croix but by far the best was right there at the Cay! We saw 9 turtles, 2 spotted eagle rays, a southern sting ray, a barracuda, cushion starfish, coral and may other colorful fish.

Unique island hotel with its own beach!

Pros: The beach, the view of the Carribean and Christiansted.
Cons: The hotel, itself, needs to be updated. Also, the air conditioning did not function properly during our entire stay.
Location: We stayed on a unique island, Hotel on the Cay, near Christiansted Harbor. We enjoyed all the little shops, restaurants and snorkeling!
Hotel staff was very friendly and informative. We enjoyed having unlimited access the beach. Our favorite restaurant was "You are here- Bar and Grille"

The hotel needs a considerable amount of repair and replacement of aging doors, windows, screens, air conditioning equipment, etc. The location is wonderful, but there are better choices nearby for busniness travelers.

"Relaxing Getaway "

I found my stay at "Hotel on the Cay" to be extremely enjoyable. The staff Ana, Sarah, and Memsa went out of their way to ensure my visit was pleasurable. Their customer service was surprisingly pleasant (due to the continuous inadequate service that is usually received here on-island in STX compared to STT, which is unfortunate.) The rooms and hotel itself could use some contemporary updates, however the less modern feel was acceptable. Our 3rd floor room had an amazing ocean view with a cool breeze coming from the balcony, and the ferry offers convenient hours in order to travel back and forth into town. The beach was an extra added bonus; nice and relaxing with a bar and grill that offered an appetizing menu. Overall, I had a wonderful time and will definitely recommend staying at Hotel on the Cay again.

Customer service?

Pros: House-keeping staff did a great job. Rooms were clean and well kept. Location is the best on the island. Beach is fantastic.
Cons: The hotel management should perhaps look up the definition of customer service. They obviously have no interest in serving returning customers.
Location: Great location in Christenstead. Hotel (Beach) Bar food service is minimal but OK considering the number of fine restaurants a short ferry ride away.
The first two times we stayed at HOC, we were treated well, once even upgraded to a suite at no charge. The last two years, the rooms we get were worse and worse. While the house staff is great but apparently the hotel management could obviously not care less about returning guests. Run of the house now must mean that you get stuck in the top building (HM) which is as far from the beach as you can get and the rooms are small, badly ventilated, tons of steps and have little or no access to an outdoor balcony. When we asked about upgrading or even paying to get more suitable rooms, they looked as though we were speaking a foreign language. (Their only suggestion was to call our booking agent - hard to do when you are already on the island) A great location and should be an ideal vacation but based on our experiences of the last two years, I doubt if we would ever seriously recommend it to anyone.
