U.S. Virgin Islands Hotel Travel Guide

Azure waters, pristine sands, palms rustling in the breeze: The U.S. Virgin Islands are a true tropical paradise. Perched just east of Puerto Rico, this American territory is among the Caribbean’s most popular getaway spots, and one peek at the island chain clearly explains why. Verdant cliffs tower over white-sand beaches, sugar plantations dot the landscape, and calypso beats whirl through each village like a laid-back soundtrack. Whether you want to browse the best shops in Charlotte Amalie or soak up the sun in Cinnamon Bay, the top U.S. Virgin Islands hotel packages offer an unforgettable experience. Plus, with Expedia’s cheap hotel deals in the U.S. Virgin Islands, you’ll have everything you need to track down the best rates and book your reservations.

    St. Thomas

When most people think of the islands, they think of dynamic St. Thomas. Though it’s not the largest of the three — that title goes to the less-visited St. Croix — it does feature two busting cities, several can’t-miss sights, and a stunning array of U.S. Virgin Islands hotels. Start your trip in Charlotte Amalie to score a discount at the local rum shops and perfumeries, and catch a glimpse of Blackbeard’s Castle. Then, get a taste of the local life in Red Hook before heading north to Magen’s Bay. This protected beach area is known for its crystal-clear water and coconut groves, and it’s a fantastic place to snap a few special pictures of the island.

    St. John

It’s only a short ferry ride from St. Thomas, but St. John feels worlds away. Composed mostly of the Virgin Islands National Park, the tiny island of St. John offers several petroglyph-sighting spots, the historical Annaberg Sugar Plantation, and a number of well-known — and often surprisingly quiet — beach areas. Make sure to spend a little time wandering around the pastel buildings and narrow alleys of Cruz Bay. For such a small village, it’s absolutely electric with local energy. Plus, you’ll find a few U.S. Virgin Islands hotel deals close to the action.

    St. Croix

Vacationers often skip this comparatively remote island, but St. Croix’s Danish architecture and lush rainforests make it worth exploring. Sightseers should start at the St. George Village Botanical Garden for a peek at this former plantation before moving on to the Cruzan Rum Distillery and Christiansted Historic Site. Prefer a more adventurous journey? Check out the underwater snorkeling trails at the Buck Island Reef National Monument, or hike along the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. You might even track down a cheap U.S. Virgin Islands hotel deal near the Frederiksted casino.

No matter where you choose to go, many hotels in the U.S. Virgin Islands provide a centrally located home base for exploring the beaches, forests, and historical sites. Compare Expedia’s rooms and prices, and then pack your bags for this warm-weather destination.

Beach was good with lots of things to do. The whole staff was great. Good food and drinks. Room very nice with great view. Only negative thing is there was no air in the bathroom. With the lights on it made the bathroom very warm and almost hot.

    "Great vacation on beautiful beach"
My family and I were almost stunned when we walked into our condo the first time because the view of the beach & Caribbean was absolutely gorgeous! Our condo was a one bedroom suite with two fold out couches so it would sleep six easily. We had a refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and stove. We were very pleased with the room and the staff. The property included a restaurant and bar area so that breakfast, lunch, dinner, & snacks were available throughout the day and a small gym area (4 treadmills) that overlooks the bay. Beach chairs were available without charge and there was a store to rent snorkeling equipment, paddle boats, and scuba gear. The snorkeling in the bay was awesome with a lot of colorful fish, both large and small. Great place; I hope to go back soon!

    "Nice view...quiet locatiom"
I love the location nice and quiet away from the hustle. Right on the beach the view was amazing. The rooms and grounds were near and clean, however if your looking for a 4 star hotel this isn't it. The rooms are basic, the pillows are flat...but what you get for a view is 4 star. I would recommend this location for several reasons and the view is one of them. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Liz our waitress was great, Maurice the taxi driver was great and always on time. The girls at the front desk along with security and other assisting staff was great. The Monday night show and buffet was more than I expected. Thank you Pelican Cove for that wonderful treat. I highly recommend a stay at this hotel.

    "Gorgeous hotel with breath-taking views"
Upon arriving to our hotel, we were greeted promptly and given a delicious welcome drink. We were also surprised to find out that we had been upgraded to an ocean front suite, which excited my friends and me very much. The view from our suite was unbelievable! Everything we could have hoped for. We even made a couple of kitty friends. They slept on our terrace every night on our towels. The staff was incredibly sweet and helpful, even when we unfortunately needed a room change around 10 pm one night. It had rained very heavily one day and somehow a colony of ants had made their way into our room. Even though it was after 10, when we called the front desk they apologized profusely and immediately sent someone to get us to bring us to a different room. We were given another beautiful room (not a suite, but was still well kept and nice and the view was right on Mermaid Beach, which was our favorite during our stay!) The drinks at the hotel were delicious (Jose at the Mermaid beach bar is awesome!!) and the food was very good. The ONLY thing I would change is the fact that there is only one restaurant that offers dinner at that hotel. Having somewhat picky and delicate stomachs, my friends and I had to go downtown after the first couple nights to get dinner for the remainder of our stay. Overall, the hotel was gorgeous, amentites were great, food and drinks delicious, and staff friendly and super helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to St. Croix!
