U.S. Virgin Islands Hotel Travel Guide

Azure waters, pristine sands, palms rustling in the breeze: The U.S. Virgin Islands are a true tropical paradise. Perched just east of Puerto Rico, this American territory is among the Caribbean’s most popular getaway spots, and one peek at the island chain clearly explains why. Verdant cliffs tower over white-sand beaches, sugar plantations dot the landscape, and calypso beats whirl through each village like a laid-back soundtrack. Whether you want to browse the best shops in Charlotte Amalie or soak up the sun in Cinnamon Bay, the top U.S. Virgin Islands hotel packages offer an unforgettable experience. Plus, with Expedia’s cheap hotel deals in the U.S. Virgin Islands, you’ll have everything you need to track down the best rates and book your reservations.

    St. Thomas

When most people think of the islands, they think of dynamic St. Thomas. Though it’s not the largest of the three — that title goes to the less-visited St. Croix — it does feature two busting cities, several can’t-miss sights, and a stunning array of U.S. Virgin Islands hotels. Start your trip in Charlotte Amalie to score a discount at the local rum shops and perfumeries, and catch a glimpse of Blackbeard’s Castle. Then, get a taste of the local life in Red Hook before heading north to Magen’s Bay. This protected beach area is known for its crystal-clear water and coconut groves, and it’s a fantastic place to snap a few special pictures of the island.

    St. John

It’s only a short ferry ride from St. Thomas, but St. John feels worlds away. Composed mostly of the Virgin Islands National Park, the tiny island of St. John offers several petroglyph-sighting spots, the historical Annaberg Sugar Plantation, and a number of well-known — and often surprisingly quiet — beach areas. Make sure to spend a little time wandering around the pastel buildings and narrow alleys of Cruz Bay. For such a small village, it’s absolutely electric with local energy. Plus, you’ll find a few U.S. Virgin Islands hotel deals close to the action.

    St. Croix

Vacationers often skip this comparatively remote island, but St. Croix’s Danish architecture and lush rainforests make it worth exploring. Sightseers should start at the St. George Village Botanical Garden for a peek at this former plantation before moving on to the Cruzan Rum Distillery and Christiansted Historic Site. Prefer a more adventurous journey? Check out the underwater snorkeling trails at the Buck Island Reef National Monument, or hike along the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. You might even track down a cheap U.S. Virgin Islands hotel deal near the Frederiksted casino.

No matter where you choose to go, many hotels in the U.S. Virgin Islands provide a centrally located home base for exploring the beaches, forests, and historical sites. Compare Expedia’s rooms and prices, and then pack your bags for this warm-weather destination.

    "Westin st john"
The Westin has a nice lounge at the airport in st Thomas. This is where you will schedule your ferry transportation to St. John. While it is very convenient and efficient, it costs $120 per person for "unlimited ferry rides" to and from St Thomas. My wife and I found no reason to go back to St Thomas until we needed to fly back home. Public ferry to St. John is $6 or $7 per person. You will need a cab to get to the ferry in st Thomas and another cab to get from the ferry dock in St. John to the Westin but you could save some serious money by doing this work yourself. Cab approx $10-20 plus ferry 7 + 7 = $34 (worse case) each way. So $64 versus $240 for Westin to take care of it for you. After you get to the Westin they have free rum punch waiting for you! The resort is fabulous. Without a question the best resort on the island. Staff is top notch, as are facilities. Fine dining and casual dining are available, poolside bar, free kayaks, paddle boards , floats, and a beautiful beach! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Westin. The Marriot has recently purchased the Westin and the resort is going timeshare/ condo so I'm not certain how much longer "hotel rooms" will be available.

    "Relaxing and low key"
Other than a brief hot water problem which was fixed immediately we really enjoyed the hotel. Staff was very friendly; Lots to do with snorkeling and SUP Boards. Food at both Iggies and Lobster Grill was great. Beach enterainment at Iggies in the evenings was fun. If your looking for upscale this isn't it. If your want low key, not crowded, more family oriented this is it.

The hotel is very pleasant, as the staff are also. The food is delicious and prices are very reasonable. The beach is a little rocky in some spots but oh so tranquil with beauty, you feel the peace and can let this stressful world pass you by. You will see why it's named pelican palms. It is a wonderful get a way.

    "check in to check out"
Although we did go at the end of April, and after the busier tourist season, St. Croix and Divi had a very relaxed and calm feel. It really isn’t the place for wild shopping sprees and night clubs, and it’s not new or spotless. We met a number of other guests and took a couple of friends with us. It was absolutely beautiful and it will stay with us. A big shout out again to the staff-we caught many names, missed some we wish we hadn’t, and know there are more-The lovely Eustacia, Krys, Jahzzi, Cece, Sherwin, Cartesha, Gibson, Edmond, local craftsman, Budz Leo, and anyone we missed! We hope to go back!
