Always impressed!

The Papakea will always be one of our favorite places to stay on Maui! It is nice and quiet-and a great location near the town of Lahaina! It feels like home in these nicely decorated condos. Beautiful ocean and garden views-and great barbeque areas near the pools. Great hoel service too!

Nice, fine

We generally had a good experience at the Aston Papakea. It is an older resort, and both condos we stayed in had guestbooks from the owners where we could leave comments. The check-in was easy, and the Expedia representative in the lobby helped us get our tickets to an event we had booked, which was convenient. The grounds and view were lovely - we looked out on a koi pond and the ocean beyond. Both of the condos were clean, but as we were getting ready to check out, we found a cockroach in the kitchen of one of them. That grossed me out, but everything was so clean that we still would go back, probably. Very close to Napili and Kaanapali and lots of great snorkeling - Snorkel Bob’s is across the street.

Hot and thirsty? Go the LocalBoys Shave Ice in Lahaina - on Front street about a block south of the Banyan tree and get any size or flavors. They shave this stuff by hand in the old-fashioned way - it is flaky and light, like eating snowflakes! The flavors are intense, and get the sweet cream they put on top - awesome! This is not like other shave ice made by machine - there is no granularity, unlike a snow cone. A very Hawaiian experience. Go sit under the Banyan tree at 4:30 and listen to the myna birds who all fly in there and sing together. Unbeatable.

Best deal on Maui

This was our first trip to Maui, We stayed 8 nights Oct 16-23th 2009 and have no regrets. Maid service was A+, Kithchen was a big plus with a supermarket within walking distance. Beach has a seawall but the next adjoining beach goes south for 1-2 miles. This unit is someones condo that Aston rents out, feels like a time share but no pushy salesmen (what a relief). Ground are immaculate. Rates are near impossible to beat. Location is approx. 2 miles from Whalers village (upscale shopping) which provides a nice boardwalk along the ocean also. Would stay again.

A small frustration

Eventhough we booked ourselves for an ocean view we end up more in a garden view. We were set up farther than what I expected where I can barely sea the shore from my second floor location. Other than that, tha place were nice and a good place to stay in. I just hope I can get what I reserved for next time.

Very Happy

I was very pleased with everything. I had a REAL problem finding the hotel. The entrance is in a congested area. The sign is hard to pick-up as a single car driver/occupant. The entry drive looks like a alley rather than an entrance. I feel the facility was well worth the price. Their sister hotel has a excellent dinner service.

not a destination resort

The Aston at Papakea is a beautiful resort with good sized rooms. However, the AC unit was not big enough to cool the bedroom and it was hot. The beach is non-existant and the closest beach to walk to had coral and lava rock to cut your feet. The location is not central and, unless you want to shop, you have to drive to everything. The ABC Store is right there with a path from parking lot to parking lot.

Very comfortable

This resort suited my needs almost completely. I say ’a;most’ because the access to the ocean is very rocky, and I am all about snorkeling! The room was spacious and clean. The small washer and dryer were in use every day. The kitchen was adequate, and the view was remarkable.

Pack lightly. The washer and dryer allow reuse of your wardrobe.

Superb Location

Very pleased with the location, view and calmness of the hotel.

Traveler's tip on dining

Highly recommend carrying supplies or buying some from Safeway. Cook or Grill to not only save money but also to not having to drive and just relax....

Papakea Resort

Absolutely loved it!. The unit was at the end so very quiet, right on the ocean so we were able to hear the waves. This unit also had a washer and dryer which was very handy. If we were to go again we would certainly try to request the same unit.

Aaaah

This was my third stay at the Papakea. Its location is ideal, yet away from the hustle and bustle of the higher end resorts. Being a seasoned Maui traveler, we usually do not attend the orientation breakfast. However, wanting fresh fruit, for breakfast, we attended. The orientation, presented by Troy, was quite entertaining, down to earth and no nonsense; probably the best orientation we have ever attended based on those factors. Accommodations suited our needs. Love the location.

Had a great time

This hotel is slowly under renovation, apparently we got a newer room. The kitchen was completly stocked & the washer/dryer came in handy. The only thing that annoyed me was they used flat sheets on the bed & every morning I woke up sleeping on a bare mattress. Next time I’ll bring my own sheets. I haven’t even unpacked yet & I’m already making resevations to stay there next year.Beware of the Farmers Market, their price gougers, look for Saveway. Aloha

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Once again be aware of Farmers Market, it’s convient, but expensive. Safeway’s about 3 miles down the road

Very disappointed

I highly don’t recommend this hotel to anyone. I will never go back there again. The sofa’s in the living room smelled extremely bad. On the next day, the housekeeper accidentally grabbed my shirts to wash with other towels, pillow cases, etc. However, the hotel refuses to mail my shirts back to me unless I pay for the shippings. The operator said the cost of shipping is around $4 something per box, and they could only fit my two shirts into two boxes. He also said the total cost estimate is around $12. When I asked how does $4 something times two gets to $12, he said, "This is called rounding up, hello?!" What kind of response is that?!

Traveler's tip

If you were to come here, be sure you’ll be okay with no where to sit (sofa and chairs stink). Also, always put up the "privacy" sign unless you have everything packed up nicely so that the housekeeper can’t throw away your shirts when you’re enjoying the beach.

Great place along Kanaapali beach

Was a bit skeptical about this since first time reserving on-line and never hearing of this place before but it was a great place for the family. Stayed in 2 bedroom/2bath condo with full kitchen and perfect size. Turns out there was room service every day. Kept the grounds very nice and although not a full beach right in front of the hotel, there was easy access down the stairs, turn left and walk to miles of beach! Enough bbq’s so you weren’t waiting to cook your meals. Would definately go back here!!

Comfortable and convenient

Room was very comfortable. Outdoor BBQs, wireless internet access, full in-suite kitchen, and location (supermarket and convenience store within walking distance with a large Safeway less than 10 minutes drive away) very convenient. Not the place if you want a beach right outside as there is barely any sand and the surf is pretty strong. A rental car is highly reccommended as there are lots of other beaches nearby.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Get a rental car, drive around the island, buy groceries, stop at the various beaches for lunch, and BBQ your dinner after cooling off in the pool and relaxing in the spa pool.

We’ll Go Back

The Papakea is perfect for families. Got in really late the first night, woke up the next morning to a perfect view of the pool and ocean. The resort has beautiful grounds and very well kept. Our room was comfortable, very clean, and had all we needed. At night, the barbecues were used every night by guests. We bought the bulk of our grocery items at Safeway in Lahaina (only a 10 min. drive). But we also visited Star Market and Farmers Market which are walking distance from the resort - all were great. Farmers Market is very different and worth a visit to experience a true local market.

With a 4.5 year old, we couldn’t do some of the more adventurous activities and stuck to the beach and the pool. For families with young kids, go to Baby Beach on the north side of Lahaina Town - minimal waves and great for kids.

Great value

We really enjoyed this hotel. We got a 4th floor oceanfront room with an outstanding view. The only downside was the air conditioner in the living room didn’t really cool the bedroom effectively. Great value compared to the places around it on Lahaina.

We absolutely loved this place. Would recommend it to anyone!

The place was slightly older than we expected but they made up for it with all of the work they put into the landscaping. We had a studio apartment that was plenty big. We saved alot of money by eating breakfast and lunch in our room. There was a nice grocery store a block down the street. We had a wonderful view of the courtyard (which includes a pond, pool, and putting green) and then we could see the ocean behind all of that. It was a very relaxing place to stay!

Nice property

Great location. Small beach at low tide but under water at high tide. Great view of ocean from all units. The pool(2)areas with hot tubs(2) were well maintained including half a dozen barbecue grills which were cleaned every morning. There is a grocery store a block away and Lahaina was only a 10 min. drive. Our unit (E202) was recently remodeled with all tile floors and new kitchen counter/cabinets. Having washer/dryer in unit was very convenient if only to dry beach towels and swim suits each day. Laundry detergent was provided.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

There is little free parking in Lahaina. Arrive early in day to get free spots, otherwise you will pay up to $15 for two hrs.

Best non-brand property in the world, atleast in Hawaii

I had never heard of Aston at Papakea Resort prior to an Expedia search. It may be a local brand and well known to some Hawaiian travel bugs but this was my first visit to Hawaii and Maui and I relied on Expedia Saver! The hotel exceeded my expectation and far superior to staying in styled but standardized Hyatt, Westin, Sheraton, etc. The Ocean front view was amazing, though the beach was a thin strip beach. The front desk for helpful and extremely friendly. The travel consultant did get us the best deals on activities.

Take this resort over the more starred resorts in this area. It is more family oriented and much more relaxed. The mall at Kaanapalli is for people with big bucks! If you need to do shopping do it on the mainland and never in Hawaii since everything is more expensive.

Great Place

Great place to stay with a family. Pool was great for all ages. Our 11 year old loved the deep end and I loved the 3’ shallow end for our 5 year old! We had a 2 bedroom/2 bath unit which was extremely roomy for us! Great to have the kitchen & BBQ’s so we could have our meals with out leaving at all some days! The washer and dryers were a great extra as well!
