Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Bakkejord?
The best area to stay in Bakkejord is on the main road that runs through the village, particularly around the Bakkejordvegen and the areas directly accessible from it.

This central stretch of Bakkejord offers a convenient and accessible base for exploring the surrounding natural beauty. It's where you'll find the primary accommodations and easy access to the local landscape, including views of the water and nearby mountains. The general layout is linear, following the main road.

For couples seeking a peaceful retreat with stunning natural views, staying along this main road provides easy access to coastal walks and opportunities for enjoying the quiet surroundings. Many accommodations here offer direct access to the water or views of the fjord, great for a relaxing getaway.

Families looking for a combination of comfort and outdoor activities will also find this area suitable.
When is the best time to go to Bakkejord?
The best time to go to Bakkejord depends on whether you prefer the mild temperatures and outdoor activities of summer or the snowy landscapes and Northern Lights of winter.

For those seeking warmer weather and extended daylight, the summer months from June to August are ideal. During this period, temperatures are mild, ranging from 50-68°F (10-20°C), and you'll experience the midnight sun, with nearly 24 hours of daylight. This is great for enjoying activities like hiking, fishing, and exploring the scenic fjords without the chill of winter. It's an excellent time for couples who want to explore the natural beauty extensively.

If your primary goal is to witness the Northern Lights and experience a snowy wonderland, then the winter months from November to March are your best bet. While temperatures can drop significantly, often below freezing, this period offers long nights, which are crucial for viewing the Aurora Borealis. The landscape is also transformed by snow, making it suitable for activities like dog sledding, snowshoeing, and skiing. This season is particularly appealing for adventurers and those seeking a unique, frosty experience.
