On the river Lauwers, near the 'Green Coastal Route,' lies the Lauwerspleats, a historic head-neck-torso farmhouse with a thatched barn built in 1651 by monks of the nearby Girkesklooster. The farmhouse sits on its own mound, with limited accessibility for disabled guests. Guests can swim in the river year-round and use a rowing boat with motor for trips on the Lauwersmeer. Cycling enthusiasts have access to men's and women's touring bikes, and a special 'Danske Post' transport bike for picnics. The Lauwers area, known as the 'Camargue of the North,' features lakes, creeks, beaches, and forests, offering diverse flora and fauna. Birdwatchers will enjoy the spring and autumn migrations. Nearby ports include Lauwersoog, Dokkumer Nieuwe Zijlen, Oostmahorn, and Zoutkamp, while Dokkum is just 15 km away. Leeuwarden and Groningen are about 30 km from the house, both offering culture, history, and shopping. Day trips to Schiermonnikoog are possible from Lauwersoog. Das Zimmer liegt in einer Scheune und ist dementsprechend leider auch sehr feucht und voll mit Spinnen, Mücken und anderen Insekten. Von den beiden Fenstern geht nur eins auf und das auch nur ca 30 cm. Die Möbel sind alt, der Gasherd ist kaputt und funktioniert nur teilweise, die Matratzen sind durchgelegen und die Stühle unbequem. Um noch etwas positives zum Abschluss zu sagen: die Vermieterin war sehr nett und die Umgebung war wirklich schön. Aber wir werden dort wohl nicht nochmal hinfahren.

Nostalgisch, etwas beengt, aber das wird durch den schönen Panoramablick mehr als wett gemacht, Wohnung liegt an einem Fluss, Tipp für den Eigentümer: Küchenecke etwas modernisieren und den Backofen ersetzen, da er ausgetauscht werden muss. Ansonsten hat es richtig Spaß gemacht. Der Besitzer ist sehr nett und hilfsbereit.

De gastheer en gastvrouw waren vriendelijk en zorgden ervoor dat we ons meteen thuis voelden. Een zeer ontspannende ervaring!
