Barcelona is full of fun adventures, but don't restrict yourself to just the one place. Pick up a set of wheels and head off to see what's in the surrounding region. Here are some places to consider:

• Rio Verde is roughly 55 miles from Barcelona. Famous tourist attractions like Buriti Shopping Rio Verde deserve to be high on your list here.
• Your next pit stop? It has to be Caiaponia, which is around 60 miles away. Caiaponia Central Square is one local hot spot you shouldn't miss.
• Get out into the great outdoors and inhale the fresh air at Japanese Gardens. You'll find it approximately 200 miles from Barcelona.

If you don't hold a driver's license issued in Brazil, then it's likely you'll need to apply for an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence in order to rent a car. You should also be aware that if you do need an IDP, it has no validity on its own. You'll be asked to show your current driver's license your passport and other forms of ID as well. Lastly, it's important that the credit card you used to book the rental vehicle matches the name on your driver's license and passport. Some other requirements for international car rentals are:

• Age restrictions: You'll need to be 25 or over in most places to rent a car. If you're younger than that, it might still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to the types of vehicles available to rent.
• Driving limitations: Make sure you read the fine print before sliding behind the wheel. You typically can't cross country borders, drive on ferries or on off-road areas with a rental car.
