Daufuskie Island Beachfront 2 Bedroom Cottage- POOL INCLUDED

*PLEASE NOTE- Daufuskie is a bridge-less island. To reach the island and stay in our condo you are required to take a ferry or water taxi.*

About our Cottage!
At 1,000 square feet and two spacious bedrooms, you will have plenty of space to make yourself at home! Our cottage is located in Melrose on Avenue of the Oaks just steps away from the Atlantic Ocean. This unit has gorgeous views of the beach from the screened in porch.

Each of the bedrooms has two queen beds a private bath. The kitchen has a glass-top stove, oven, large refrigerator, garbage disposal, toaster, standard coffeemaker, Keurig coffeemaker, dishwasher, and a microwave. It is well-appointed with pots and pans, an electric griddle, basic kitchen utensils, and barware. A full-size washer and dryer are located within the pantry. The dining area includes a large table with seating for six and three bar stools. The porch has a table for four with addition chairs for relaxing and enjoying a morning cup of coffee or evening libation!

This unit comes stocked with starter supplies, 2 rolls of toilet paper per bathroom, 1 roll of paper towels, 3 trash bags, 3 dishwashing pods, and 3 laundry pods.

All linens and bath towels are provided.

About the Melrose Cottages
Located directly on the beautiful Daufuskie Island Melrose beach, the cottage is centrally located and a quick golf cart ride to the Scoopasaurus Ice Cream, Up in Smoke BBQ, Frye's Chicken, School Grounds Coffee shop, Daufuskie Island Distillery, D'Fuskies Eatery and Bar, and the Old Daufuskie Crab Company. Daufuskie Blues, The Iron Fish Art Gallery, and our Historical Museum are also just minutes away!

You will also have access to the Melrose Pool free of charge! Just remember to check in with your passes and let them know where you are staying!

Important Info about Getting Around Daufuskie Island

(This part is super important!) Daufuskie is a bridgeless island and you cannot bring your car. This means more planning and preparation on your part, but it’s also why Daufuskie is so undeveloped and special! Guests must arrive by ferry or water taxi and secure ground transportation from the arrival dock on Daufuskie to the cottage.

There is a small general store on the island for essentials, however, it is highly recommended that you bring food over with you or order grocery delivery. There are restaurants on the Island - Old Daufuskie Crab Company, D'Fuskies, and Frye's Chicken Shack.

Transportation to the island:
Daufuskie Ferry Service - runs daily and departs from Bluffton, SC (https://www.daufuskieislandferry.com/)
May River Excursions – private ferry service from Bluffton, SC

Ground transportation:
Once you arrive on Daufuskie Island, ground transit is required to transport you and your luggage from the ferry landing to the unit and from the unit back to the ferry landing upon checkout. Golf carts cannot be used to transport luggage.
Contact Daufuskie Life (if traveling into the County or Melrose dock) or Daufuskie Difference (if traveling into Freeport Marina) for transportation from the dock to the cottage.

The cost of ferry tickets, additional golf cart rental/upgrade, grocery delivery, and ground transportation are separate fees and must be reserved by the guest.

We stayed here 3 years ago & we were so pleased to see the lovely upgrades to the cottage. It is close to the beach & a golf cart ride to anywhere on the island. We love it here & will return soon!

Daufuskie island is amazing. I’ve been three times. This was the worse house I’ve been to so far but still okay. House was in great location. House was very sandy upon arrival, floors and counter tops. Hot water heater did not work for first two days but they did send someone to fix it and it did get fixed. No hand soap provided which to me should be part of essentials especially since you have to travel there by boat or ferry. Did not have enough towels and wash clothes for each person to have one. We killed five small roaches in the house while there (not palmetto bugs). House was roomy and had lots of seating and room for us eight women. I loved that it provided enough beach chairs for all of us.

Great location

We just spent the best week on Daufuskie! The location was perfect for walking out and spending mornings on the beach, afternoons at the Melrose pool and evenings riding the golf cart to view wildlife. It was so peaceful and relaxing, and my kids said they wish they could stay all summer! Can’t wait to go back!

Wow - location, location, location.

House needs work as noted by previous reviewers. We had,however, a 5 star experience. The view and the proximity to a virtually private beach was wonderful. We loved Dausfkie(our first time there). Tooling around in our golf cart and discovering hidden gems. The laid back vibe was just what we wanted. Residents are super friendly. I hope they do renovate the house. It deserves it. Great floor plan and lots of sunlight.

Relax on the private beach

It’s worth the trip to come to this delightful, spacious cottage. The golf cart is all you need to drive all over the island. Although there were few restaurants to choose from, we had delicious meals when we ate out. It is a wonderful place to relax and reconnect. We’ll definitely be back to Daufuskie Island.

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. The host was an excellent communicator and even reached out to let me know how to handle an inclement in weather as she would be monitoring in the background. I felt very safe and cared for. The cottage is stocked with everything one could need to be comfortable. That was my second time staying in that particular cottage and, no doubt, I shall return.

Great house—FABULOUS location!

We just had a blast on a friend trip at this house! This is our second trip to Daufuskie—we are all smitten with the island! We aren’t high maintenance, we wanted a CLEAN place, beachfront with a fully appointed kitchen and a spacious, enclosed deck. We got all of that and more! The rental agent answered almost all questions immediately. It was, at times, a little difficult to get quick answers via email during our stay, but we figured most answers out or asked locals, who are so friendly and helpful! We will DEFINITELY be back!!

Great house and host

This house is nicely positioned right in front of the beach access. It is clean and comfortable. Everything went smoothly with the transportation from the dock and our van driver Freddie gave us the lay of the land. Jonathan was in constant contact concerning a small hiccup we had and was very helpful and easy to work with. Thank you for all your help. We would stay here again.

Lacking in cleanliness, actually left early due to

We stayed at this property for the Daufuskie Island marathon. Upon arrival the property looked fine but just felt stale. When we went to shower before bed they had only left 4 towels, one for each guest, and they were all stained. Our other two guests didn't come so we could pick from the dirty towels & find the least stained to use. One towel had an earwax looking substance on it. The others had black and brown stains that are probably from makeup. When we went to bed the sheets/pillow cases were stained as well and also had black marks on them. I spent 15 minutes picking animal & human hair off of the sheets/pillowcases. The couch in then den has a large rip in it and many areas of the floors feel like they are caving in, especially in the master bathroom. Overall the property is in need of some TLC but there is no excuse for dirty sheets & towels, especially when there are no extras left to switch out if needed. We actually decided to leave a day early due to the lack of cleanliness and the morning we left when we stripped the sheets off the beds, we were disgusted by the mattress pads. They must not be laundered much as they looked dirty and brown and they had what looked to be blood stains on them. We notified the host about the problems & informed her we were leaving a day early due to not being comfortable with the lack of cleanliness. She refunded us $200 without us asking but honestly that wasn't even the rate for one night or the cleaning fee. Overall disappointing.

Wish I could give -1!!

Before arrival I sent owner email with a question regarding grocery delivery. To my surprise, he stated he had never heard of Instacart or Cyber Valet grocery. Red flag #1. Check in is at 3pm. We arrive exhausted and ready to relax at 6:30. Only to find cleaning supplies are front door,door open,floors filthy,beds tossed,entire cottage dirty. Housekeeper finally arrives stating she had no idea someone was coming. I call owner and he said," they knows the schedule, let me call." Then tells me that she just had to get her vacuum!! 3 hrs after Check in and beds aren't made,everything dirty because she had no vacuum?!! Then we realize there were no hand soaps or shampoo as listed on VRBO. Had to call owner yet again.i also told him the cottage was STILL dirty, he called back and said the housekeeper would come back to clean. Um, no, we had already unpacked. Go to bed that night,guess what??NO SATELLITE tv..no TV AT ALL. Call the owner AGAIN...said he called Direct TV a dig would take AT LEAST 24 hrs or they would have to MAIL a new box. So, no TV, which was listed on VRBO. Then ,since we are on an island with limited restaurants we wanted to cook in a lot. Guess what?? NO mixing bowls, chipped coffee mugs and dishes everywhere, watered down dish liquid. Then, the cottage ,as listed on VRBO, comes with golf cart. We get there and someone calls from Daufuskie Tours and states she is bringing out cart. She comes and asks for MY CREDIT CARD info!!!???? Not only did I not u understand why this was happening, but the OWNER should've handled this himself. I have owned rental property before, I know that I would apologize profusely and try my BEST to make things right. This owner was beyond flippant and uninterested in helping us have an enjoyable experience. I have many friends who are interested in going to Daufuskie after heading about our trip and the first thing I tell them is DO NOT rent this cottage.

Perfect Spot for a Getaway

Cutest cottage
