“Farnley Tower is a very attractive building in a lovely location, easily walkable (but be aware that Durham is VERY hilly) to and from the city centre, the cathedral, and the castle/university campus. I’ll say up front that we are somewhat more critical than most because we travel full time. This stay was the second-last in 5 months of continuous travel, and we’d had many, many excellent stays against which to compare it. Our first impression was that Farnley was lovely, but unloved. “First class as always, this is our fourth visit and we are already planning our next one. From a seamless check in with an amazingly warm welcome from Nicola and Cheryl who remembered us from previous visits. The room was excellent and the housekeeping team did a fabulous job throughout our stay, nothing is too much trouble. We are in the Pin bar and once again the food was lovely and all people we came across were helpful and polite. We had a visit to the Spa, where the beautiful Lilly……

“Staff were great, the hotel looked stunning and the grounds were amazing. The breakfast was delicious too. The room we had was in the attic so I kept hitting my head, the main light in the room was above the doorway which was around a corner so didn’t really help at all. There was water and hair in the bottom of the shower when we arrived as if someone had only just had a shower. There were patches of damp in the room around the window and on the ceiling.”

“I am going to celebrate my husband's wedding. The hotel is cosy and unique, it has a nice restaurant where we had dinner and breakfast during our stay, and a small library bar where you can chill with friends. The room is spacious and warm, we love this hotel.”

“Pleasant stay. Clean room. A not too loud alarm did disturb our sleep a little but it must have been nothing untoward? - fire regulations said to wait in bedroom until otherwise advised... fortunately no such advice was forthcoming!”

“Had a two night stay in Room 1. Staff all friendly and helpful. WiFi was on the blink.so not available on our room. They said they needed to fix it. Room was spacious. Lovely bathroom but lighting in both room and bathroom could be brighter. Water hot but found controls on shower difficult to adjust. Tea making facilities all good but I brought my own herbal tea - only standard tea available. Small bottle of still and sparkling water provided.”
