Great launch pad for your Yellowstone Adventures
We arrived late, but had no problems finding or entering the property. I was actually surprised to have 2 bedrooms and a loft, for some reason I thought it was only 1 br plus loft. That was a pleasant surprise for my family of 6. However, with only one bathroom, I don't know if I would try to sleep more in the cabin. It was clean and warm and we quickly settled in for the night. It was very windy that night and the metal cables from the boat ramp next door were clanging outside my bedroom window, but not an issue on subsequent nights. We woke up to 6 inches of snow on the ground. It was nice to be able to walk to the grocery store and pick up some food and supplies in the morning. The kitchen was adequate for prepping/cooking/dining. We ate all all our breakfasts at the house and 2 of 3 dinners. And the view out the sliding glass door was amazing. I am sure we would have enjoyed the deck if it wasn't 10 degrees outside. The pipes froze our 2nd morning, but we were never cold inside the house. We bought a couple of gallons of water at the gas station that morning to get us through, and the owner was very responsive in letting us use the bathroom/water in a neighboring cabin and getting the pipes thawed out while we were at the park that day. The issue barely affected our stay and with some extra heaters and a letting the water drip at night we had no further issues despite the bitter temps. We were there are the tail of the toursit season so some local places were closed or closed early but you have plenty of restaurants and shops with in walking distance. Plus you have plenty of wildlife strolling around down. You are 1 mile from the park entrance and 5 miles from Mammoth Terraces. In our 3 full days we traveled to across to the Lamar Valley, over to the Yellowstone Canyon, and down to Old Faithful and many places in between despite having multiple road closures due to the snow. I am sure it is even easier to see the park when you can actually complete a loop or figure 8. The house is tucked in a narrow alley way. A little hair raising to park when vehicles are on both sides of you, but thank goodness for good back up cameras now a days on vehicles. Overall, a great stay and I would recommend this cabin to large families or two couples traveling with kids. Thanks for the use of the place!
