This home is so special, it will check all your boxes! It's beautiful, spacious, light and airy, and located in an enviable setting, right on the famous Helton Creek. There are so many amenities, your whole group will find something to love.

This large, log-cabin-style home is situated on the curve of the creek, with a huge, flat yard running along the water's edge. Your friends and family won't be able to resist gathering here, not only for fishing and playing in the water, but to also take advantage of the other recreational offerings, including basketball, ping pong (inside the garage structure) and disc golf. Bring your frisbee, football, croquet, or any other games your group enjoys – there is space for everything!

In the evening, you'll still want to be outside, gathered around the fire pit by the water, star-gazing and roasting marshmallows. Or take a relaxing soak in the hot tub. All while serenaded by the comforting gurgle of the gentle flowing stream.

If you're longing to decompress with minimum effort, hang out on River Song's stunning deck, which wraps most of the way around the home, with a view of the water and surrounding woods. The outdoor grill and multiple dining areas accommodate eating and entertaining al fresco, making the most of everything you came to the mountains for.

Indoors the home is almost as impressive as its amazing outdoor spaces. The towering ceiling in the great room enhances the sense of spaciousness, while the wood construction provides a warm and cozy atmosphere. The great room has a stone, gas fireplace, Smart TV and plenty of comfy seating. The dining and nicely-appointed kitchen area is directly adjacent, with stainless appliances, a ceiling fan, and everything you need for meals and refreshment at home, including a dishwasher, microwave, Keurig and regular coffee maker. The dining area seats 6, or 8 with the extra leaf. There is also room for 4 at the kitchen bar. Also on the main level, you'll find the half bath just off the living room, and a queen-sized primary bedroom with an en suite bath, a TV and private access to the lovely deck.

The upstairs level is perfect for the kids, with its own entertainment area and TV, as well as a huge bedroom with bunks and twin beds, to sleep 4. The catwalk overlooks the great room and the open loft has a full-size sleeper sofa, recliner and 55” flat screen Smart TV. From here you can access a covered deck. Down on the third level (below the main level) you'll find an entire apartment, with a second kitchen, dining for 4, entertainment and lounge areas, and a TV, as well as another bedroom and en suite bath. Step outside from this level, and be waterfront in a minute.

When you're ready to get away from it all and enjoy a peaceful vacation in the mountains of North Carolina, the River Song Retreat is your dream come true!

Experience the High Country

The River Song Retreat is the perfect spot for exploring the area's best fishing spots, on the famous Helton Creek. Here you'll find Crumpler and Shatley Springs to the South, Lansing to the West, and Grassy Creek and Mouth of Wilson to the North, just over the Virginia border. A great spot called the River House is nearby, with its popular, upscale restaurant.

From this location, you're only 30 minutes from Grayson Highlands State Park, where wild ponies will greet you up on the Massie Gap Trail. Come in the spring and you might see the foals. The park provides great hiking, a replica of a historic mountain settlement, and more.

Downtown West Jefferson is also less than 30 minutes away, offering several great options for eating out, shopping and entertainment. This picturesque town is famous for antique shops, art galleries, craft beer breweries, and Ashe County Cheese. There's even a movie theater. This is small-town Americana at its finest.

Lansing, home of Molley Chomper Cidery, is another quaint small-town destination. When you get hungry, check out Pie on the Mountain, known for great pizza. Across the road is the Lansing Creeper Park, with a walking trail and monthly Music in the Barn concerts.

Ready for adventure? In addition to fun on Helton Creek, the New River offers countless opportunities for kayaking, canoeing or tubing. Local outfitters will hook you up with whatever you need. Other High Country recreation opportunities include hunting, zip-lining, cave exploration, mining for gems, and more. Mountain Aire Golf is a gorgeous public course in West Jefferson, with 18 holes of beautifully-maintained fairways, amazing scenery and reasonable prices. Don't miss other area attractions like Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls, Mount Jefferson State Park, and the Tweetsie Railroad!

Throughout the High Country, gorgeous scenery awaits you at every turn. Be sure to take a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, with some of the country's most awe-inspiring views and photo opps. You'll understand how our mountains got their name!

NC's High Country offers a mountain vacation with something for everyone!

There are external cameras monitoring the public areas outside of the house.

We do not recommend low profile vehicles as the road to house is gravel and the last mile is narrow. 4WD is not necessary unless there is inclement weather.

Beautiful property! We enjoyed our stay. House was stocked with everything we needed and more. Beds were comfortable and the views amazing! We enjoyed trout fishing and sitting by the fire. We shopped, visited Grayson Highlands State Park, Mount Jefferson Natural Area, New River State Park and Grandfather Mountain. We fished and many lakes and creeks in Lansing, West Jefferson and Blowing Rock. We shopped in Boone and West Jefferson and visited Ashe County cheese and Mast General Store. What a fun week!!!

Incredible. The kids never got bored. They floated in the river/stream. Played tons of ping pong and basketball. Roasted marshmallows on the fire-pit. Caught lots of trout and crayfish. Dips in the hot tub. The place was clean. Kitchen wasn’t as stocked with dishes etc as most places I’ve stayed, but it had enough. Be aware, there’s a long bumpy dirt road to this property. You can get to the house with most vehicles I think but without 4 wheel drive, you won’t get up the driveway to park next to the house. And it’s a steep walk up from where you can park down below. Just a heads up for elderly or people with some physical challenges.

Overall the stay was nice and clean. Upon moving some furniture for game night and movies we noticed a lot of dirt and debris under and around the sofas. The driveway was a nightmare getting up to the house and parking, backing out was very dangerous, there was limited car control forward or in reverse. The 1.5 miles driving to the house, also unsteady and washed out. Luckily, we were in a 4-wheel drive and we were able to make it.
