Though the only thing that happened on the moors was fulfilling an American's silly Holmesian fantasy of walking the moors at night, everyone was concerned for my safety and I really appreciated that. My stay was wonderful, the food was really delicious, and everyone with whom I spoke was just up-front and pleasant. Its in a really wild location very close to Hadrian's Wall, beautiful countryside - but it can get a little wet and windy. So stepping into this cosy welcoming place and having some of their own beer and food in front of the fire is just exactly what you want. Stay the whole weekend and explore the Vindolanda museum. You can even get there by bus!
