We very nearly slept in our car for all the trouble we had getting into this place!
We knew we would be arriving late as our flight landed around 11:00PM, so I called the number given in the email from Expedia and explained when we'd be there and inquired about the late check in procedure. The person on the phone said there would be nobody at the desk but there would be a phone and a number to call and then we'd be let in.
We arrived in Kona at midnight, and had trouble finding the hotel because "Kona Islander Vacation Club" doesn't exist. We found a building called "Kona Islander Inn".
We found a red phone that said "Hawaii Resort Management Hotline" so I picked it up and it played a message with nothing about late check-ins. It mentioned I could press a button for after hours emergencies, but that went straight to voicemail.
We also found a black phone at the front desk which caused a phone to ring unanswered in a room behind the front desk.
Eventually I called expedia and they gave me a different number. The person at that number gave me a code for the door to our suite. We didn't even know our suite number. We got it, and then went up and down about 30 sets of stairs looking for our room because the buildings were unmarked.
Why couldn't they have just given us the code when I first called?!
Once we finally got in there, the room was clean, nicely decorated, and had a great ocean view. There was also a note with a 24 hour assistance in case we need anything :/
