Dirty, Infested with Bugs

Posted Aug 7, 2017
Pros: Front desk was friendly, first room had WIFI and smart TV. Landscape looked nice. Free parking. Putting green was fun. That's about it.
Cons: EVERYTHING.
Location: Location is great close to town.
Planned trip as a quick getaway before the kids started school. Been to Molokai Shores before & were satisfied with what they had to offer-knew we couldn't expect rooms compared to Aulani or the Hilton. Unfortunately this time we were given a room that seemed to have been unoccupied for YEARS. I opened the door & was overwhelmed with this musty, pungent odor making it hard to breathe. Opened all doors, every window I could pry open (very dusty/rusty) hoping the room just needed to be aired out. We left, went for a swim at the pool (which was oddly warm, barely one pool jet functioning & couldn't find where the water was being filtered?? Which explained the rubbish floating & sitting on the bottom. Chlorine was so strong it burned our eyes. Wading pool was stagnant.) for an hour but came back to the room smelling the same. Upon closer inspection, the upper portion of the bedroom walls covered in dust, the popcorn ceilings (which I thought had asbestos and needed to be removed?) covered in dust. A thick blanket of dirt and dust on the ceiling fan and a black ring of dirt circling it. Kitchen & cabinets smelled of cockroaches. At night about 50 beetle looking bugs came from ?? & congregated on the ceilings near the lights. Absolutely disgusting. Floors sticky & grundgy, screens falling off from wind, door jamb fell off exposing rusty nails. The only good thing 32" smart tv and the WIFI. Offered another room, bigger, but with beetles & bonus of cobwebs & dead spiders. GROSS!

Wouldn't stay again.

Posted Jul 11, 2017
Pros: Views and grounds were nice. Pool was nice. Laundry room and soda machines available.
Cons: Someone should actually pick up the after hours line. Cleaning of rooms needs extreme improvement. Maybe management needs to inspect rooms first.
Location: Love getting Moloka`i bread and taro donuts at Kanemitsu Bakery. Cinnamon butter is my fave.
First off, Castle is not on site. We needed to turn around and go back into town to check in at their office and grab our keys there. No elevator, so if you have heavy luggage or are in a wheelchair, you're screwed if you are on the 2nd floor. Initial room we got, all fans were broken. THERE IS NO AC HERE. Room was DISGUSTING. Seen a roach crawling on the kitchen counter. Seats were stained. Everything is ancient, like a time warp into the 80's. I have no idea how they can advertise this room slept 4, because there was just a small queen bed and a nasty wicker love seat. Called to switch rooms. 2nd room, still gross and dirty but atleast the fans actually worked and there was sufficient furniture in there. Floors were VERY dirty, kept finding hair everywhere, décor very dusty, old, kitchen is old. Bathroom was ok, towels smelled clean and so did the extra bedding thank GOD. Some windows were busted, screen sliding door had a huge hole. We needed a crib, as advertised, for our 10 month old, called their after hours phone number, no one returned our call since they close at 4pm (check in only from 3p-4p wth) and the next day was July 4th, NO ONE WAS WORKING. Had to improvise, pushed bed up against wall, hubby and son had to sleep on the 2 couches while I slept with one eye open on the bed with baby. I know its Moloka`i but dang, I rather have pitched a tent in my familys yard than stay here. Castle had the nerve to charge a $125 cleaning and RESORT fee after all this!

from great to not very good

Posted Jun 7, 2017
Pros: the room and grounds
Cons: enforce your rules
Location: beaches and hiking
Room and grounds were amazing. however the tenets of the condos are very noisy and loud. Other than being overall loud, quiet time is from 10pm - 8 am and the tenets are up talking loudly at 5am. Dont plan on much sleep if you stay here.

We were very disappointed with our stay.

Posted May 26, 2017
We have been there on other occasions in the past and noticed the depreciation of all the ratings listed above. Staff - Located several miles away from the facilities. Facilities - Fans and bathroom facilities, old, broken, noisy, archaic. Cleanliness - Dusty, cluttered. Comfort - Beds old and uncomfortable. Good things - Landscaping - lawn moved and pool. Beautiful ocean view.

The location was excellent however when we checked in we were hit with an extra $US125 charge for cleaning, for a 3 night stay. This charge was not mentioned when I booked via hotels.com. Had I have known this I would have looked around elsewhere as the condo was very old and really needs an update. I could have got a newer condo in another complex for the same cost if you include the extra $125.

Not a hotel--individually owned condo units.

Posted May 10, 2017
Pros: Location
Cons: Safety--windows that open. Fans that work. Perhaps even air-conditioning. Locks that open and close.
Location: 1 mile out of main town area. You must have a car to get around. Wonderful view of the ocean from second and third floors.
Your unit is totally dependent upon the owner--if they modernize it, great. Ours was outdated and unsafe. Windows were stuck shut and lock broke on door when we closed the door while going out to dinner. No on-site night personnel so we were lucky when a neighbor with locking picking skills came out to help us. Location has great potential. "Resort fee" covers??????????? Molokai is beautiful but buyer be ware when it comes to picking a place to stay. Talk to someone who has been there--if you know what you are getting, it's OK but when you expect one thing and get another, it may ruin your trip.

Comfortable, Well-Equipped Condo

Posted May 1, 2017 on Hotels
Every unit in this well-maintained condo community is oriented to have a lovely view of the water. In unit #203, the owners ensured that the kitchen was well-equipped and the furnishings were comfortable. They even provided a self-authored guestbook with their suggestions about things to do while on Moloka'i. Ocean breezes kept the condo at a pleasant temperature, so air conditioning wasn't necessary. Ceiling fans were also provided in the living area and bedroom. The pool was easy to access, and the common area included grills and picnic tables for outdoor meals. Shared laundry facilities were available on-site. The condo community is just over a mile from the quaint town of Kaunakakai, which included all of the necessities (grocery stores, bank/ATM, gas stations, restaurants, bakery, etc.). A perfectly walkable distance, in our opinion. In short, Moloka'i Shores was a perfect spot for relaxing, and was centrally-located for exploring. The island is an excellent choice if you're most interested in enjoying the views and a leisurely pace. If you require a "tourist strip" of t-shirt shops and themed bars/restaurants, this is NOT the place for you; stay on Maui. The only small hiccup in an otherwise delightful trip was the over-zealousness of the housekeeper on our day of departure, who knocked on the door just after 8 AM. We had just begun to pack, and asked for a confirmation that check-out time was at 10 AM. She agreed, but returned just an hour later!

B-126

Posted Apr 19, 2017
Pros: Funeral and close to town.
Cons: Another unit
B-126. Wasn't clean. Horrible Condo. Lanai was filthy with a Rooster living on the Lanai Chair. Cockroaches in this unit is really bad. I used the Microwave and Cockroaches started crawling all over the counters. Utensils in the drawers were dirty. Along with the Coffee Maker. This is the Worse Place we have ever stayed at. No one around to help assist us at all.

Beautiful ocean view

Posted Mar 27, 2017
The room needs upgrades. There was no curtains in the room so the outside lights were beaming inside the room at night so I couldn't sleep. No air conditioner so you just sit there and sweat. There were notes on the windows DO NOT OPEN so it made it miserable during the day.
