Overall, the layout of the house worked well. As we reported to the property manager, upon arrival there was a strong odor of mold or mildew that we traced to stagnant water in a non-functioning icemaker that leaked onto the carpeting in the adjacent bedroom. Once the handyman finally arrived, he was able to stop the leak, but the carpet had to be pulled up in that part of the bedroom and blower fans were brought in to dry out the carpet. Not at all ideal to say the least. Also, the carpeting on the stairway and at the top landing was filthy upon arrival as were the cushions on the outside furniture. We attempted to clean the cushions to remove the stains and were somewhat successful but made did not attempt to clean the carpet as we had neither the equipment nor cleaning solution. Also, being in the house and having to use the stairs would have been impractical if the carpets were cleaned while we were there. These areas need serious attention. If we were checking into a hotel with these issues, we would have demanded other accommodations. The outside control on the hot tub did not work. The pool service could not get it to work. The handyman did show us the inside control panel while he was there and we could use that. These were the big issues. Smaller suggestions - the kitchen knives (chefs knives, etc.) were dull and need sharpening. Cereal size bowls would also have been useful. Especially for the kids.
