“We had a wonderful time at this ryokan. We chose this inn specifically for its remote location and traditional atmosphere and were not disappointed. The hotel, outdoor onsen, and woodsy surroundings were all excellent. The building is old and reminded me of the railroad lodges of the western United States: creaky old doors and floors, metal keys, and rotary dial phones.
Other than the hotel, there are no restaurants nearby (that I know of) and dinner is an elaborate kaiseki ryori that requires...

“We stayed here as a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids - 10, 6 and 4) in the traditional Japanese room. We didn't get in till 6ish and left early so we could get to Kamikochi but I wish we had of added another night or at least got there at check in time to make the most of the facilities.
Unfortunately we didn't have time to use the onsen.

“Great location for the hotel to see both the Shinhotaka ropeway and the Kamikochi park. Inside it was clean, quiet and, of course, great private onsens. 2 indoor and 1 outdoor. Water was very hot, but relaxing. Will definitely book again if we're back here”

“The entire Roykan was very clean and comfortable. The staff was personable and we had the best time getting to know them and their families. They all were extremely kind and we were most thankful for their friendship.”

“Most excellent stay with impeccable hospitality. The hotel master provided us with superb dinner each day (even though I did not reserve dinner for the first night).
Super worth the stay to explore kamikochi really early the next morning.”

“Un excelente lugar lara relajarse, hay que tener respeto a las tradiciones y disfrutar al maximo la experiencia, es un onsen donde no se admiten tatuajes, hay que cubrirlos, pero vale completamente la pena”
