Although the rates have increased hugely over the last time I stayed there 9 years ago, they are supposedly within a reasonable margin as far as Manhattan is concerned. I like the proximity to the subway and the easy access to restaurants and cafes. The television options are very limited, but the free buffet breakfast is certainly a huge plus. Why aren't visitors allowed access to a guest's room if the front desk can have security information?

If you can get past the old condition of the building, it’s actually an excellent place in NYC. Don’t expect upgrades nor glitz . It’s devoid of decorations but so safe and clean.

My first thoughts on entering the hotel were not great. It looks very drab. Upon entering our room my view did not change. Decor was terrible, scruffy and in dire need of updating, however it was clean. I was unaware when booking that this was a catholic not for profit hotel as this was not on the property listing. My son's room was in much better condition and makes me wonder if there is a program of updating the rooms. The dining area was lovely - lots of original features, breakfast was really good and lots of choice and really well stocked. All staff were fabulous - really friendly and helpful. Once I got over my initial impressions I actually really enjoyed staying here. The shared showers were not a problem - there are not many rooms per floor and 2 showers and we never had to wait to use one. The rooms were also very quiet. There is also a lovely little courtyard. The area is great, good transport links within a few minutes walk, or if you're happy to stroll for 15-20 mins within easy reach of lots of sights making the location perfect. It really offers value for money. If you want a glitzy hotel then this most definitely not the place for you. But if you want a budget friendly hotel in a great location and are happy to ignore the decor then this is the place for you. I would stay here again. Oh I have read previous reviews stating this is a place housing immigrants??? This is rubbish - everyone staying here were normal tourists from all over.

Overall a good stay. First night was a bit uncomfortable as didn't have air conditioning in the room however the next morning it was fixed and after that a pleasant stay. Staff on the whole are kind, curteous and the free breakfast 6 days a week is a great help. Rooms are fairly basic but for a cheap stay in NYC it's perfect! Especially wanted to highlight Amber(?) in particular for being a great member of staff - kind, welcoming and knowledgeable. There was another chap (the one who sorted my air-con within 20 minutes of reporting), but I didn't get his name.

This property is a nice little gem in the heart of Chelsea. It was so close to so many cool sites. I found it very convenient to the subway and trails to safely make my way around town. I would consider staying here again.

The staff at the front desk were friendly. The room was decent, but there were a couple small stains on the duvet. The shower is in another room and shared between other guests. The breakfast on Saturday was good with lots of variety. It was about a 25 minute walk to Times Square, and the area around was quiet at night.

Simple accommodations, but for the price in that part of New York City you can’t beat it. Building has a 1940’s feel about it, but everything was very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. It is located very close to a subway stop so you have easy access to the whole city.

There was signage in the room stating to turn off the ac whenever leaving the room, but there was no ac control at all in room 601, was a bit hot at times and even noticed the front desk girl fanning herself
