Lazy Bean ~ Private Cabin Neighboring Bob Marshall Wilderness

    Historic cabin in Condon
With 360 degree views of the Swan Range and Mission Mountains serving as a backdrop, the Lazy Bean is on the edge of one of the wildest, most primitive areas in the lower 48 states. Elk and whitetail deer habituate the sub-irrigated hay meadows and although rare, moose have been known to drop by. Muskrats, mink and otters are established residents of Smith Creek which runs through the property which also offers an intrepid angler a chance to test their skill against wily brook trout. Sandhill cranes, blue herons, bald and golden eagles are common sight (to better view this parade of animals please check out meadowlandranchmontana on Instagram). Some nights the wolves howl, the coyotes yip and the owls hoot. A unique feature of this working hay ranch is it's location next to the aforementioned primitive area which we call "The Bob", but is officially labelled "The Bob Marshall Wilderness". The Bob is over 1 million acres and extends at much as 60 miles along the continental divide. The Lazy Bean offers easy access to this as well as being just a few miles away from the Swan River - the home of Montana's most famous fish, the bull trout. And yes, there are bears. Grizzly and Black. The main ranch, Meadowland, is situated in grizzly bear corridor that has acted as a protective buffer to promote the endangered species recovery. DNA from hairs collected on sight assisted in this effort. The previous long term tenants of The Lazy Bean were involved with conservation and compiled a few videos of various bears at a game camera. One even has a wolf acting as ursine wingman (youtube wolves traveling with grizzly bear swan valley montana)Other nearby things to do include hikes in the Mission Mountains (which also have glaciers - each lake in that range is an individually melted glacier, several of which support micro-climates), hikes into The Swans (think Holland falls) and if boating on the list, the valley hosts some gems including Lindbergh, Holland and Seeley Lake. This list goes on: Flathead lake (the largest non-manmade lake west of Mississippi) is only 40 miles away with the very cute hamlet of Bigfork nestled in a pretty bay acting as a maritime hub. Glacier National Park is about 90 miles from us to the north while Yellowstone is 300 miles south. The cabin itself sleeps 4 very comfortably in 2 queen sized beds. There is a day bed on the main floor that sleeps 2. Pet friendly and although we don't have any RV facilities they are welcome as there is ample space to park. Cell phones work and there is wifi. No TV or washer/dryer. The Lazy Bean has a 2 night minimum and if there is interest a secondary cabin with a bunk bed and bathroom can be made available for a small additional cost. In the photostream it is the small brown "Hunter's Cabin".
Guest accommodations at this cabin offer fireplaces and coffee/tea makers. Rooms open to balconies. Accommodations offer separate living rooms. Kitchens offer refrigerators, stovetops, microwaves, and separate dining areas. Bathrooms include shower/tub combinations and hair dryers.

The Bean might be Lazy, but Andy Isn't!!!
We knew we would love our stay at the Lazy Bean the moment we pulled up! It was about a mile off the main road which provided the peace and quiet we prefer when traveling. It had great views which you could just sit and look at for hours from the front deck. The cabin was cozy, full of everything you need, and had plenty of room for family games in the evenings. The property itself is amazing but, more importantly, Andy, the owner, is exceptional! He went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. He emailed us to let us know the property was ready early and we were welcome to check in as soon as we were in the area. After we arrived, he took us on a quick walk about around the ranch and highlighted some local hikes and things to take note of. Shortly after speaking with him, we did the first of many hikes he recommended and it was beautiful! We knew we had to do more of the hikes he recommended and ended up spending the majority of our time hiking around this area rather than dealing with the crowds we found in Glacier NP. He took time another morning to tour a larger area, explain the history of the property, and provide more details about the area it is located in. His positive and caring attitude is a rare find and made our family feel welcomed. As we were looking at the photos of our trip again today, our five year old saw a picture with Andy and said, "He is awesome! I love that place!" I think that sums up the experience! We loved it, would recommend it to family and friends, and will definitely go back in the future. .

    Simply put... AMAZING
Loved the short stay we had at the Lazy Bean. It was a wonderful step out of the busy everyday of life. We would love to visit again.

    Picture Perfect!
Lazy Bean was everything we had hoped for and MORE! Picture perfect setting in the meadow, between 2 powerful and raw mountain ranges! The cabin was clean, spacious and most importantly uniquely designed! No need for ANY electronics when spending time resting between our hiking adventures. This cabin is locked and loaded with facts, unique items, pictures and more books than we had ever seen at a vacation rental! From oceans, to mountains, to big city vacation rentals...Lazy Bean has become #1 on our list! We will be back! Thank you

    Beautiful Cabin in Amazing Location
Our party of five very much enjoyed the Lazy Bean! Andy was great and the setting couldn’t have been better. It was a perfect setting and appreciate Andy having made it available to others. A real treat and highlight of our trip. Highly recommend!

Beautiful and Relaxing, a must if wanting to get away!
I cannot begin to explain the amazing time we had! This cabin offered just what we needed for our family of 5 in the midst of nothing being normal for the past few months. We had the opportunity to disconnect, relax, and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The cabin is stocked with over 2,000 books (our oldest counted them all), games for the kids, and the kids even learned what it was like to play solitaire with a real deck of cards. The evenings offered time for some fly tying and we even caught some fish with our own flies! They were bailing hay while we were there and our youngest was thrilled to watch and Andy took him around when they were loading the trailer. Two of our children got to celebrate their birthdays at the cabin and Andy went out of his way to bring gifts for all three. Just being able to have the windows open and hear the Sand Hills each morning "talk" to the geese was something you do not get everyday. Our kids had the best time with Sis and Sunny (labs), Andy, and they loved meeting Sassy. We were just a hour or so drive from the Blackfoot River, Bigfork and Kalispell.
