Tucked among the windswept pines and golden marsh grasses of Lieutenant Island, this one-of-a-kind mid-century modern cottage becomes something truly special in fall. The air carries the scent of salt and pine, the tides whisper through the reeds, and the sunsets burn deeper against the quiet horizon. Here, retro design and timeless coastal charm blend into the perfect off-season escape.
Inside, the cottage glows with autumn light—warm woods, clean lines, and vintage details that tell stories of another era. Spin a record from the curated vinyl collection, sip cider in your cat-eye shades, and let the easy rhythm of island life take over. The cozy living space invites lazy mornings and late-night board games, while the two bedrooms—one queen, one full with bunks—offer soft landings after long beach walks. The detached game room, accessed by ladder or outside entrance, keeps the fun going with foosball, darts, and streaming TV.
Outdoors, life slows to a whisper. The screened-in porch is perfect for coffee and conversation as leaves drift past. The wraparound deck calls for sweater weather dinners cooked on the grill. Two kayaks wait at the ready for a calm paddle through mirrored waters, where herons and egrets glide through amber light. And yes—your dog is welcome to come chase the tide with you.
Come for the nostalgia, stay for the peace. This mid-century gem on Lieutenant Island is fall at its finest—quiet, colorful, and completely Cape Cod.

Tides are the rise and fall of ocean water levels that happen every day. They’re caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun on Earth’s oceans. The moon’s pull is stronger because it’s closer, and it causes water to bulge out on the side of Earth facing the moon and also on the opposite side.
As Earth rotates, different areas move into these bulges, which is why we get two high tides and two low tides each day. It’s like the ocean is following the moon’s lead in a giant, watery dance.
Please check a tide chart for Wellfleet Harbor (in your guidebook) so that you can plan accordingly.
