Rooms need mosquito nets or similar deterrent. They have them in room photos but not our room! Beautiful location and love that they employ so many locals. Restaurant and especially drinks so terribly over-priced. Good location for sites though. More an eco resort and tropical garden than a chocolate farm. The tour was way over priced. $50 usd for 35 mins. Whitney who did garden tour was great but chocolatier was v disengaged and poor. Also couldn’t even answer basic questions (what temp is used to heat the chocolate ingredients). Also completely skipped bean roasting and more. Decent spot but would not return unless nets added.

We were really excited for our stay at Coconut Bay, but our check-in experience left a lot to be desired. When we arrived, our room wasn’t ready. After waiting an hour, we were finally given a room, except it was the wrong room format and size, and staff were actively in the room cleaning it still. We went back to the front desk to explain the issue, and were told there wouldn’t be any rooms available until the next day, with no guarantee even then. We asked to speak with a manager and had to wait for what felt like an unreasonably long time, while staff seemed to ignore us. Eventually we were assigned a different room, but the key didn’t work. We went back to the front desk, got a new set of keys, those didn’t work either. We ended up standing at the front desk for another hour before finally getting help. In total, we lost almost 2.5 hours of our day to this process. When a manager finally arrived, she had to call security just to get us into our room. About an hour after we finally got settled, the manager called to let us know they’d secured the correct room format for us, so we packed up again and moved. The problem was, our bags still hadn’t been delivered to our first room. We waited in the new room until around 8 PM before calling the front desk, only to be told our bags had already been delivered, to the first room, not the one we were actually in. We didn’t get our bags until 8:30 PM, and by that point we were so worn down we just decided to call it a night.

We had a fantastic time there, and the staff was amazing. The view is an 11 out of 10. It is rather high up on a very bumpy mountain road, so you won’t want to be going into town and back a lot. We just stayed there for the entire time that we were there and didn’t leave. The food is good but nothing to write home about, and it’s very expensive but it’s pretty obvious why when you realize there are only six rooms and a ton of staff to support it. For dinner you might be the only ones dining that evening.

This review was for the bay gardens beach resort, as Sapphire was not opened when we went at the end of May/June. When we booked in Nov the previous year, it was supposed to open in Jan. When we checked directly with the resort in Apr, 6 weeks before our arrival, they further confirmed our room would be available. 3 weeks later, they said it would not be open and put us in 2 rooms at bay gardens. Judging by the construction and pace of work, it would be shocking if it will be opened before July or Aug, but looks like it will be very nice when it opens. As for Bay Gardens beach, the staff, particularly our butlers Prisca and Nage were phenomenal, as well as V from the excursion desk. They helped do special things for our anniversary as well as our sons birthday, and reserved areas on beach and by pool for us, as well as getting drinks and making reservations for us. The staff at the spa was also nice. The place NEEDS the new restaurant at sapphire to open. The restaurant on site was ok, though pretty slow. The other properties (hotel, inn and marina) look old and dated and we only had a drink there waiting for shuttle. The rooms at bay gardens beach were ok, though a bit dated and had some maintenance/ant issues. Maintenance and housekeeping were pretty quick to address what they could, but our entire reason for booking was to get a brand new all inclusive (we had booked the 3 br beachfront villa with private pool), so were expecting more for what we paid. Pool and beach good.
