"Pension Barbara is a very cosy and clean pension right next to the paths leading up to The Brocken. The hostess was very sweet and attentive, and we had a good stay. Schierke as a town is a bit dated and quiet in the autumn, when we visited. Is was difficulty to find a place to just have a couple of drinks etc. The national park, Brocken and paths are all excellent for a short hiking-holiday. Great nature, chalenging paths (if you want it), nice restaurant on the summit."

The owners of the hotel are very hospitable and even shared some Stollen with us, which was the first time we tried it and now really enjoy this German sweet bread. "When we arrived we were given a ticket to park the car in their own private car park, which was very helpful. The room was spacious and the amenities were well kept and clean. A very good location also, as it was placed in a beautiful part of Wernigerode but also only 10 minutes walk away from 2 of the Harz Railway stations and a mainline station. I would highly recommend this hotel."
