Can't believe they call this a resort!

Posted Jul 25, 2016
Pros: Nothing worst hotel we have ever stayed at!
Cons: Having an ice machine, customer service!
Location: Gatlinburg, TN
When we got to the hotel, four people were behind the counter but we had to wait ten minutes to be checked in. Then when we got to the room it was so small that when we opened up the sleeper couch we had to turn the table upside down on the desk because there was no other room, then it blocked the television. The refrigerator did not work and it took them, two and a half hours to get us a new one. Then there was no ice machine and they wanted to charge us for a bag of ice.

Past its prime and really bad food at restaurant

Posted Jul 16, 2016
Pros: The staff.
Cons: Update the rooms and do whatever needs to be done to the kitchen to improve food taste. Really bad stuff.
On the plus side, the front desk staff were very sharp and welcoming. It was clear that they were well-trained, had a lot of experience and enjoyed their work. As for the rest, the room was almost OK. The bed had seen better days. It wasn't very comfortable. The pillows were lumpy. I got three hours sleep that night. The bathroom was quite dated and I was worried that if didn't treat the shower head gingerly it would break off. To flush the toilet, I had to press very firmly on the handle and hold it down for it to work flush. There were flies in my room when I got there as well. There was a strong musty smell near the air conditioner. Really though, the worst part of my stay was dinner at the restaurant. I cannot remember eating at a restaurant where the food was so bad. There was a bad smell and taste to absolutely everything that had been cooked in the buffet. It didn't matter if the food had been boiled or fried - there was a vinegar/sulfer taste to all the food except the salad vegetables. I ended up eating lettuce, kale, cheese and italian dressing after tasting almost all the food on the buffet. I even got a small portion of cucumbers in a dill sauce that had the same aftertaste. I went to pay my bill and I was asked if I would like to try a bit of their homeade fudge. I tasted it and had to throw it away - it also had the bad taste. I don't know how they got everything to taste so bad, but it is an experience that I do not want to repeat.

Run down hotel of the 1950s style.

The toilet seat didn't even fit the toilet. The second floor had a plank walkway that flexed with every step and echoed the sound or toiler bags.

House keeping left a lot to be desired. The only thing they did was to change the towels, empty the trash. They did not make the bed, change the linen, vacuum the floor, rinse the sink, or anything else. Very basic service at best. Also, the fire exit signs were wrong. Exits pointed to where there were none. Might be an issue in a log cabin.

Making It the Best It Can Be

We love the Smoke House, it has improved over the years. Now it is time for attention to detail. Our shower head pressure was horrible, the shower curtain was in need of replacement and our window curtain was broken so we had to rig it to stay closed overnight. Fixing those things would make our stay great!

Nice room for the price - bring ear plugs!

Posted Apr 18, 2016
Room was clean and the beds were comfortable. These are standard rooms and it was a little tight with 2 queen beds, but we were comfortable. Only complaint we have is the noise. While we were in the back away from the road, we could hear our neighbors quite distinctly. They were not being noisy just talking in a normal way. They came in late, after we had gone to bed and they got up at 3:30, talked til 4:30 or so, then left. Bring ear plugs and you'll enjoy a good night's sleep.

Love the restaurant and the staff! Rooms are good. May have some rough edges. The beds was clean and comfortable, but a little jiggly. I plan to return when photographing the area.
