I arrived at the hotel at 9:15 pm and no one around. Area was in the country, dark and n9 vehicles around. I called the after hours number and someone got back to me at 10 pm and at this time already got another place to stay. I had to work with the manager at hotels.com to get my money back
I have stayed at the red door for years and will for many more.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, room comfort
Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Only complaint is the horrible noises coming from the walls all night. Maybe it was the water heater or plumbing issues but it made sleeping difficult at best.
Booked two nights at the Motel but upon check-in was told that the Motel lost water pressure and was placed into a cabin.
The cabin was a great "upgrade" however, we didn't bring towels of toiletries.
The girl who checked us in said she would get towels but didn't know what toiletries meant.
We went to town to get soap, shampoo and conditioner.
She showed up later at the cabin with two towels for 2 nights.
Clean, comfortable, quiet room. Only one complaint - neither bedside lamp worked. Reported it Sat morning - returned Sat night and the problem had not bee fixed.
Would definitely return for another say!
We had a great, albeit brief stay. Great, friendly owners, and we loved having the Cafe/bar right there! The lake was beautiful. The hotel room itself was nice - convenient with a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee pot. For some reason, the sheets felt sort of sticky -- I've never experienced that before so not sure why. The most inconvenient thing was that the room was cold and while there was an A/C wall unit (which we didn't need to use), I'm not sure that the thermostat on the wall adjusted the heat like we tried to get it to do. They had left an extra blanket though, so we survived. :)
Would definitely stay again!
Things were clean and the only things we had to bring along to our cabin were the towels. They had pots and pans, dishes, cooking utensils, ect. Beds were clean and comfortable. The view was wonderful.
This resort was amazing! I grew up in Aitkin Minnesota and the resort was so close to the farm we used to lived on. The friendliness and customer service of the family that owns the resort was so refreshing. I live in Illinois now and customer service has been lost here. I will definetly go back to this resort and stay for more than one night, I also plan on bringing some friends. The cabins are lovely and give a very homey atmosphere. Mille lacs lake is beautiful and next time I go, I will go fishing!!!!
Great place to get away from the technology world!
The motel is extremely neat & orderly. Had no odor or dirt. Bed was very comfortable except for flat pillow. Expect to come here and relax - wi-fi and phone service very weak as it should be!! Just enjoy the beautiful nature all around. The owner is a very nice lady. You can tell the family puts effort into making their property attractive.
Relaxed check in at a very tidy place with a great restaurant on the property that is run by a mother daughter team.
The food is great, everyone makes you feel welcome and the prices are very reasonable. The room is well kept and was comfortable. I will stay there again when working in the area.
Arriving, I was a little nervous because of the appearance but once we got into the room I was pleasantly surprised. It was very clean. Really the only complaint we had with the room itself was that there was no trashcan in the bathroom. Also, we stayed two nights and never had any housekeeping service (no fresh towels nor was the main room trashcan emptied - we were staying with a 1 year old so it would have been nice to get the diapers & fruit peels out of there). I guess for the price I should not complain. We did see the housekeeper tho! He was often sitting outside facetiming loudly with someone in Chinese & pacing back & forth across the parking lot. The walls are very very thin, hearing our neighbors talk or tv was not a problem but anytime they used water it sounded like it was happening 5 feet from your ear. VERY LOUD SCREECHING NOISES. The owners don't appear to always follow their office hours, they were absent many times. Also, fun fact, when people arrive for check in outside of office hours apparently they just leave the cabin or motel door wide open with a note on it saying "this is for the ___ party". They also say they offer groceries at the lodge - DON"T FORGET ANYTHING AT HOME you won't be able to find it in the lodge. It would be better to go to the Holiday up the street. Also, I would not actually call this a resort. Plan on having excursions all day to occupy yourself & only sleeping there at night.
Motel did not have our reservation. Said they do not work with Expedia, even though it was through them that the room was booked. After 45 minutes, they found one room ready for occupancy. Another room had, unexpectedly, been vacated and was cleaned for us. Fortunately, we had some place to be, so we did not have to wait for the cleaning person.
