When you've covered all the terrific places in Chinatown, there's heaps more to discover in the region. Grab the keys to a rental car, stow your luggage in the trunk and get out there. We've pulled together some road trips we're confident you'll enjoy:

• Head to Pattaya for a fantastic sightseeing adventure. Approximately 60 miles from Chinatown, it has tons of inspiring sights, including Buddha Mountain.
• Located 90 miles away, Hua Hin is also a hit with wanderers. Be sure to get to Hua Hin Railway Station while you're here. It's one of the reasons people love coming to this colorful city.
• Make tracks to Klong Plu Waterfall to rediscover nature. Pack a picnic to enjoy or just sit and unwind. From Chinatown, it's approximately 170 miles away.

If you don't possess a driver's license issued in Thailand, then you may need to acquire an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence in order to rent a car. Also consider that if you do need an IDP, it has no validity on its own. You'll be asked to show your current license your passport and other forms of ID as well. Lastly, make sure the credit card used to book the rental matches the name on your license and passport. Some other things to note for international car rentals are:

• Age restrictions: You must be at least 25 in many countries to rent a car. If you're younger than that, it might still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to the types of cars you can rent.
• Driving limitations: Be sure to read the rules and regulations before you drive off the lot. You typically can't cross country borders, drive onto ferries or go off-roading with a rental car.
