After you've checked out all of the well-known sights in Playa Azul, there's more to discover in the surrounding area. Collect the keys to a rental car, throw your luggage in the trunk and take to the open road. We've come up with some road trips we know you'll enjoy:

• You'll discover National Museum of Costa Rica and many more amazing attractions in San José. From Playa Azul, it's approximately 110 miles away.
• About 45 miles away, Liberia is also popular with wanderers. Be sure to get to Liberia Parque Central while you're here. It's one of the reasons people love this thriving city.
• Venture into nature and breathe in some fresh air at Corcovado National Park. You'll find it around 180 miles from Playa Azul.

If you don't hold a driver's license issued in Costa Rica, then it's likely you'll need to acquire an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your home country in order to rent a car. Also consider that if an IDP is required, it won't be valid on its own. You'll need to show your driver's license from your home country your passport and other forms of identification as well. Lastly, make sure the credit card you used to book the rental vehicle matches the name on your driver's license and passport. Some added requirements for international car rentals are:

• Age restrictions: You need to be at least 25 in most places to rent a car. If you're younger, it may still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to the types of cars you can rent.
