Cottage on Pequaywan

Beautiful Lake Cabin on private Smith/Little Pequaywan Lake on a 4-acre mostly wooded lot with old growth pines and plenty of parking.
100% remodeled 2 bedroom/1 bath cabin that sleeps 6. Everything in our 900+ square foot cabin is brand new and ready for your enjoyment.
The floor plan is a completely open concept with a fully equipped kitchen with island and peninsula overlooking the lake.
Included with cabin rental are kayaks/canoe/paddle boats ~ all the toys you need to enjoy the lake. The beach area is mostly sand/gravel bottom and very clean, perfect for the kids or that morning swim to start your day. Life jackets available from toddlers to adults.
We also have an 18’ pontoon boat with 4-stroke motor available on a limited basis and is $250 per day or $1000 per week – gas included. Smith and Little Pequaywan Lake are both private lakes so we cannot allow any launching of boats. Fishing is very good from the dock for panfish, bass, perch, and Northern pike. Because of the clarity of the lakes, walleyes are usually best caught at low light or on overcast days. The submerged islands are usually a good bet. Fishing gear is available free of charge for all skill levels. If needed, just let us know in advance what you need. If trout fishing is your thing, there are a few local trout lakes that are great fishing, just ask your host for locations and fishing tips.
Finish your day with a peaceful evening around the fire ring. Listen to calling loons while watching the sunset over the lake to the West. There's nothing better!
Your secluded lake life hideaway is just 30 minutes away from Two Harbors and access to Scenic Highway 61 and the beautiful North Shore of Lake Superior. 40 minutes from Duluth’s Miller Hill Mall, 45 Minutes from Duluth’s Canal Park. Country living with easy access to shopping and Duluth tourist attractions.
All seasons are great around the Pequaywan Lakes area. Winter provides miles of snow shoeing, cross country skiing and excellent ice fishing. Summer provides great opportunities for swimming, hiking, fishing and lake life relaxation. Fall is a great time for hunting enthusiasts, the Cloquet Valley Forest offers some of the best grouse hunting territory in the state. There are miles of hiking and biking trails, including the Superior Hiking trail right down the road. Take in the amazing fall colors that rival the North Shore, without the traffic!
We have wi-fi, internet and TV. Your AT&T cell phone will work in our area, but some other providers have limited service.
Find food and drink just down the road at the Pequaywan Inn. A quaint little restaurant and bar serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hugo's Bar and Convenience Store is just a few miles away, offering beer, setups, and a limited menu. Hugo’s is also your best bet for basic essentials like bait, gas, propane, fishing license and groceries.
We are pet friendly and allow well-behaved dogs to stay with you. There is a $150 cleaning fee per dog, and they are not allowed to be in the cabin unattended or on the furniture or beds ~ please.
Note: Since this property has been 100% remodeled and landscaped there will be some disturbance to the soil and grounds that we will be finishing in the spring and early summer. There are numerous pieces of artwork and furniture from local artists/craftsman throughout the cabin and property. There are also limited pieces of artwork/furniture for sale with other items available for ordering.

Extended weekend getaway
We thoroughly enjoyed our time here! Decided last minute to take the kids to the north shore for the fall colors. So happy I found this gem! Definitely could have used more time so that we could have enjoyed the property and the lake more! Would definitely stay again.

John and Lori were wonderful hosts! They respected our privacy while accommodating all our needs. They are the embodiment of being "Minnesota nice". The location is beautiful and the house was clean and inviting. it is perfectly located to get away and be close enough to so many beautiful locations. We were able to seethe split rock lighthouse, Canal park, The Haunted Ship in Duluth, and so much more! Thank you for the wonderful stay!

Wonderful Cabin!
My family and I had a great time at this little hideaway cabin. The place was well stocked with all the items we needed for a 6 day stay. There were fishing poles and all the gear and plenty of little fish to catch right off the dock. We enjoyed being outside and listening to the sounds of nature. There were comfortable beds and plenty of extra bedding. Toys for the kids were a big help! We highly recommend staying at this cozy little cabin, but would suggest bringing all of your food and necessities with you as there are very limited options nearby, but that has no bearing on the cabin itself. It’s a fantastic retreat!

Great "Up North" retreat
The cabin is very modern and slept all of us with ease. The lake view from the yard is gorgeous. Great fishing off the dock. My kids caught fish all throughout the day! We loved trying out the canoe, kayaks, paddle boards and paddle boat. It was really nice to have a fire pit both up by the cabin and again by the dock. We would definitely stay here. Lori and John are excellent hosts!

My Wife's Birthday Stay
John and Lori have a great spot. They had a Happy Birthday banner and gift basket waiting for us along with a couple of cake pops in the freezer. That was very thoughtful. The cabin was very clean and nicely finished. It really was a great stay. John and Lori were both very responsive.

Great getaway!
This property was amazing! Part of the reason we booked it, was because of its proximity to other fun activities but we could have spent our entire vacation at the cabin! The kids spent hours swimming, fishing, kayaking and paddle boarding. A great place to make lifelong memories!

Beautiful Lakeside Cottage
Our stay was perfect! John and Lori have a beautiful updated cottage with amazing woodwork. I fell in love with the doors and the island! The whole place was very clean and had everything we needed. Our boys love to fish and caught many fish off their little dock. We used their kayaks, paddle board and paddle boats. Along with the water toys, they had life jackets, fishing rods and tackle available for us to use. The lake was pleasantly quiet and everyone was very friendly. If we had any questions, Lori responded back quickly. We enjoyed our whole stay and are thankful to both John and Lori for opening their beautiful place for us to stay. Thank you for the treats and giving us a wonderful vacation! I have already recommended this place to a handful of friends. Hopefully we will be back someday!

You guys, this place is actually BETTER than the photos and description! Super clean, tons of convenient touches throughout with everything you could possibly need for relaxation and fun! The cabin has been beautifully remodeled and is comfortable and spacious. We have zero complaints staying with John & Lori and plan to tell all our friends and family about it. A perfect lake getaway for our family of 5 and we can’t wait to return. Perfectly situated between Duluth & Two Harbors.

Honestly, there was a bit a kerfuffle with VRBO when it came to booking. I reached out to Lori and she got very quickly and we booked the property. She was prompt and very professional. Upon arrival, my family was knocked out by the cleanliness and the quaint nature of the property. Everything was right where it should be, including a welcome note on the fridge and a s'more / snack kit on the kitchen island. While the kids and I were fishing, Lori walked over and introduced herself and answered a few simple questions we had. The beds were comfortable, the accommodations were well appointed and the trip was a total success due to the great cabin we had. John popped over the second night while we were fishing and was very kind and answered more questions we had. This property is a gem. We had a wonderful time and are proud to recommend this cabin to families looking for a relaxing place with a welcoming, back home feel.

Lake Cabin
John and Lori are wonderful hosts. Their communication was great, and knowing they were available if we needed anything was appreciated. The cabin is beautiful and feels like home. There are many details in the cabin from the woodwork to the mood lights that made it special. The view from the cabin was awesome, especially at sunset. We were able to enjoy the pontoon to explore the lake, but they also had many other toys to play with in the water. We had a lot of fun using the paddle boat. Being a private lake made it very quiet. The fishing was good, and the water was clear for us to swim from our private dock. The kitchen had everything we needed to make meals. There are two firepits to use, one by the lake and the other by the cabin. Our family truly enjoyed our stay!

This is a beautifully renovated cottage with everything you need. We really enjoyed all the “toys” for the lake that were included: kayaks, paddle boards, paddle boats and fishing poles/gear. John and Lori responded quickly to any questions or needs we had. We will definitely visit again!

My wife and I came up to this cabin to have a nice, quiet retreat over the weekend. We also participated in the Grandmas Marathon weekend races. The cabin was everything we hoped for. The pictures are all accurate, the hosts were welcoming and responsive, the cabin was spotless and showed the recent updates to the property. We had a really enjoyable time staying here!
