“A little gem. Had a fantastic weekend stay at The Smugglers. From the minute we checked in to the moment we left, the staff made us very welcome. The restaurant served superb steaks cooked on their charcoal grill.
thank you Mark and Emily and all the staff. They are a real credit to your hard work in making this hotel a lovely place to unwind and relax. Andrew and Sam”

“We were in room 1.
It was immaculate, big comfy bed
Fantastic shower, tea and coffee and a well stocked kitchen that was spotlessly clean.
Alexa in kitchen to enjoy music if required.
Access was easy and instructions regarding everything were in the folder in the room.
Really enjoyed our stay would definitely stay again and recommend as well to family and friends.”
“A delightful place to stay. Right on the sea with a splendid terrace. Restaurant, bar service, swimming pools, a gym and lots of free parking. A splendid hotel for a base to explore south Devon.
A lift is available for most floors.”
“Great communication from the owner Tom from the beginning as he phoned us in the morning to help us navigate through the road closures due to the air show and thousands of people attending. Had a lovely stay, comfy bed and great location. Would recommend and visit again. Just how a family owned guest house should be. ”
“Rooms, food and staff were all outstanding. Excellent location with a lovely terrace area. Only 1 minute from the beach and high street. Best sleep I've had in a long time.”
“We stayed for one night only and the reception was friendly. We bought a plug-in air freshener as the room smelt funky. The single bed was uncomfortable. Very noisy at night due to karaoke - but this was the summer in Paignton so I guess it’s normal. Hotel is near the main strip so very convenient. ”
“The best way to describe the Great Western is with the two words, quaint and quirky! The house is in the middle of a massive re-vamp, but that did not impinge on my stay, which was short, but long enough to form a very positive opinion.
My room was clearly re-purposed, with the en-suite bolted on, but it was clean, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom fittings were quite new and of a good standard. The furnishings were old-fashioned, but I thought that gave the place its charm and……
“A really warm welcome into a great property.
It was greatly appreciated that our request for a swift breakfast was met, and good food it was too! Will stay again when coming to Torquay.”
“I found the hotel perfect for a short stay in Torquay. Only a 10 minute walk to the seafront and free parking just outside the entrance. I had a lovely cooked breakfast every morning with some extra treats. Really friendly place and I'm going back there in the summer. I'm using the hotel as a base to meet my friends who return to Torquay twice a year.”
“Jo the care taker is very nice and friendly to give whatever help and advice needed for a visitor new to the place. The room is clean and in fact the whole building seems to have just been renovated.”
