On the horizon at the top of Carn Brea Hill is the De Dunstanville Memorial, a memorial to one of the Bassett family. The Bassetts were big landowners hereabouts in the 19th century. Most of these very impressive ruins were built in the later stages of mining in the area at the end of the 19th century and start of the 20th when South Wheal Francis had amalgamated with Basset Mines and this site became the focus of ore lifting and sorting operations.
