VRBO review This has been the worst short-term rental experience I’ve ever had. My family and I arrived to this property to find it extremely cold. Not only is the thermostat controlled remotely by the host, it is locked in a box and taped over so the guest can’t even see the temperature. We texted the host about the cold and got no response for more than 5 hours. There were also no additional blankets or any other means to get warm. We ended up getting in touch with VRBO supervisors who were very concerned about us being left in the cold and ended up escalating our case with no prompting from us. They said they would advise the host to offer us some money off our stay, but the host refused to compensate us.Once the host responded, around 11pm that night, we had to text him any time we wanted the temperature adjusted. The building is old and drafty so we would often need adjustments to be comfortable and found the host would only respond sometimes or would take a few hours to fix the temperature. The host also left a key, but failed to inform us that the key only works in the door handle and NOT the deadbolt. Some members of my family ended up locked out of the house after midnight when I locked the deadbolt to go to sleep. When we brought this up to the host he said that the deadbolt shouldn’t be locked, which seems like a safety concern to me.
