Hansel & Gretel Cottage @ HomeAway Ranch

$50 cleaning fee, $50 per pet, horse prices may differ/ $20 per guest after first 2 people. (not included in base rent)

NEW / IMPORTANT PREFACE: We want to say up front that we take very seriously our responsibility to do everything within our reach to keep everyone as safe and healthy as as we can, while you have a relaxing, health-building and fun time with us!. This includes the following:

First of all is our location: We only have 9 cabins / suites for rent which are all private and spaced apart and in middle of 30 acres of fields and woods, so plenty of room to enjoy the outdoors without any human contact. Then, all cooking can be done in cabin and/or on grills we provide, so no need to go to any restaurants... Even all our "extra-fun" Animal Adventures and Horseback Riding activities have been modified so they are "private" - just for you, by reservation and conducted outdoors and at "safe-distance"...

Upon each checkout, we ask all guests to cooperate in the safe-stay" procedures, with 3 simple steps: (1) wash their dishes with disinfecting soap we provide, air-dry and put them back in cabinets with doors closed, (2) put linens in plastic bags we provide and, seal and put by the door so we can promptly remove and(3) take all garbage to dumpster . Then we come in with face masks and spray every single surface with organic disinfectant and let the cabin air out while it takes effect, then go in and clean with disinfectant soap, all laundry is separately bagged and separately washed & dried in high heat. After cabins have been all cleaned out, we re-set beds with fresh linens and towels, new trash bags, cleaned / disinfected ac filters and filled up new coffee condiments. A final disinfecting of floors and doors are locked so no one can come in till you get here.

Our location is also ideal: Only 5 minutes from main street Boerne & close to San Antonio, yet it feels like you're a million miles away in this wonderful wooded ranch where great views of beautiful nature from your own little porch + great amenities like BBQ pits, smokers & BBQ grills, picnic areas, fire pit for your bonfire, tamed farm animal "pets", horseback riding & you can even get the best darn cooking you ever had cooked fresh by 2 resident Chefs (meals and horseback riding optional add-ons by previous appointment only) converge to create an unforgettable getaway as well as convenient vacation-hub.
We give discounts for teachers and professors, all medial personell, law enforcement and retired or active military.

Location? Great for your San Antonio, New Braunfels and/or Hill Country vacation hub: 5 minutes away from Main Street Boerne (& I-10) where there are tons of fun things to do, 10 min. to FM 46 (road to to Bandera & New Braunfels), 20 minutes to San Antonio's Fiesta Texas & The RIM (I-10 and 1604) with many entertainment, shopping and fine dining options, 30 min. from Fredericksburg...

To sum it up, even though we are tucked away 'in the woods', we're in a very convenient location for whatever you may feel like doing.

Quaint Cabin on a Farm
We could have had an awful experience, driving up into the Hills with the crazy Christmas weather that hit the states this last weekend. But we didn’t. Vicky and Micki were amazing hosts, communicating the status of electricity and the water as they not only set space for their inbound guests, but managed a fully functioning farm. We had a great time!🎄 We had a great start with a walk about the farm meeting the goats and donkey’s before enjoying the sunset down with a friendly horse visit. We had a short power outage that evening, the cabin was actually pretty comfortable. We stayed warm with the extra blankets and had our propane stove with us to heat up some gluhwein we had gotten from Fredericksburg. Vicki messaged us updates about the power, luckily an easy fix. Please note she also did offer a larger meeting space access for our comfort, we chose to stay in Hansel. Her husband had brought us a dozen eggs (I had asked about them prior to our arrival) The eggs were very fresh! There really is a difference, breakfast was a great start after waking up to watch the sunrise on the front picnic table. We got lucky with all the sunshine making for a great hike at Guadalupe River SP and the town of Boerne was adorable. So many pet friendly spaces. My husband enjoyed the front porch rocker and the sunset with our pup while we had a visit from the new next cabin neighbor. Our Christmas Eve dinner was easily made with all of the items available in the kitchen. The fold out table was perfect for the two of us! The bathroom space is small, but the shower stall was fine for my 6’ husband (note the H & C are reversed). If you like a firm mattress, maybe try the pull out? We felt the bed was a bit soft, but I think we can sleep on the floor comfortably. For us this was the perfect quiet, away from people getaway. We did not request any of the meals or horse rides so no input on any of that. Having two nights and leaving Christmas morning was the perfect escape we needed for our holiday, to be able to disconnect and relax together in such a quiet and peaceful space. We can’t thank our hosts enough.

Feel like we were mislead.
We have stayed at lots of vrbo's and this one I feel was very misleading. They said their was a small fee for the activities but it wasn't. After spending the amount on the cabin and cost of traveling, you would think they would be reasonable. We were told they would bring us a grill and said their was a firepit but we didn't have one. The next morning I was about to cook breakfast and the toilet stopped up and came up through the shower and the kitchen sink. My husband tried plunging the toilet but it wasn't helping. We got pretty grossed out and decided to go ahead and leave as we were starving. We left by 10:30 Sunday morning. Didn't feel it was very sanitary. On another note, I thought the hills on the property were very pretty. Paid for 2 nights but only stayed one. I'm not one to complain but we just didn't have a good experience!!!

Perfect Birthday Gift
I bought this trip for my daughter and her boyfriend as a surpise birthday gift. We selected all the activities (the horseback riding, the aviary, and the farm tour) and they loved it. The setting was so idyllic and relaxing (despite my daughter's fear of Emu's and a Macaw trying to seduce her boyfriend) That they couldn't stop talking about it. We kept the whole weekend a secret from them and told Mickey and Vickey that it was a surprise and that we were hoping the bf would take advantage of the weekend and propose. Not only did the hosts go above and beyond with the room, they were gracious enough to allow my husband and I to come up a few days before to drop off a bday gift for my daughter and show us around the property. When their trip was over, Mickey and Vickey even reached out to me to make sure they had a good time and ask whether or not they did get engaged (SPOILER ALERT: THEY DID!!!!) I can't believe how they went above and beyond to make this weekend special for my baby girl and her fiance.

Absolutely beautiful and quiet getaway
There are not enough words to describe our stay at this property. Such a beautiful place with several cabin options to choose from. Enjoyed not being right on top of each other/other travelers. Thoroughly enjoyed all the farm animals and their daily visits to our cabin. We also enjoyed a private horseback riding adventure guided by the owner. Both owners were readily available should you need ANYTHING. We will be planning another trip out soon to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Thanks to the beautiful owners for sharing this little getaway with us. They’re very special people

We had a cabin with a full kitchen to ourselves for what would have been the price of a hotel! We got to bring our 2 dogs with us for a minimal fee, the location was incredibly beautiful and the animals on the property were so friendly. We had donkeys, goats and a pot belly pig walk up to our cabin and our puppy.

Great Find in Boerne
This cabin was very cute and quiet--easy to get to downtown Boerne. We stayed here for a wedding and it was awesome to be so close to town. Very clean and was perfect for 3 people. Loved to visit with the goats each day!

Our vacation this December 2018 was fantastic! The horese and goats were a bonus!
Mickys & Vicky's ranch is great getaway! We had a great Christmas 2018. The animals is quite a bonus. My daughter and her boyfriend made it down to the corral every morning with apples to feed them. We made a few trips to Boerne downtown - which looks magical, like a postcard picture. Bought a delicious pie at bumsdoddler's, a trip to Boerne' s lake- (which by the way my daughter took some awesome pictures). We even made it to Comfort Tx. On the way back we took a FM road that lead us to an Oasis. It was an old saloon packed with drinks! From beer to soft drinks. We signed a guest book, took pics, and left donations. Over all, our stay was Great! The cabin that I chose, was rather small. It did say 3 bedrooms, but in reality it only has 1, and a sofa bed in the living area. That was the Hansel & Gretal cabin. Everything else was picture perfect. Didn't get to spend much time with Vicky & Micky, till the day of our departure. We will definitely come back again, but this time I know which cabin to select. They gave us a tour to their 10 cabins. Plus informed us of a venue to be coming soon. So excited that this little place of heaven exists. They have a complete kitchen, of which I cooked a prime rosemary -rib roast. Thank you- Micky & Vicky- (hopefully i get to meet you Vicky)! I left you some kitchen decorative towels Vicky for one of your lovely cabins! Thank you kurstin & Wess for your hospitality. Alicia Acosta. 😉

Refreshing stay in the country yet conveniently close to Beorne fun!
Our hosts generously upgraded our stay to the comfy cozy main cabin, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Upon arrival we were greeted by an expansive deck lit up with festive patio lights which made us want to lounge on the deck sipping wine all night long! Spacious kitchen and living room great for gathering for priceless quality time together. Bedroom is furnished with cute antiques and a very comfortable bed. Our son loved waking up early to explore the ranch and interact with the friendly livestock. My husband brewed the delicious coffee provided which definitely helped the early mornings! Overall a fun stay full of quality time.

Hill Country Cabins with lots of upside
Property has about 4 cabins and a larger building with 2 suites, kitchen and dining facilities with a large open veranda. When we were there the larger building looked like it hadn't been used in a while, and could stand a major clean-up. The cabin we stayed in was the smallest and was comfortable enough for our needs. It had everything we needed. We only had two issues. The AC unit is a window unit in the living/kitchen area. It kept that area very cool, but took almost 8 hours to make the sleeping area comfortable (it was a hot day in the Texas Hill Country). It might have helped to have a floor fan to move the cool air from the living/kitchen area to the sleeping area. Second issue was the Internet wasn't working for us. It appeared to be a bad modem but the replacement didn't work either. Wasn't a huge deal since we were there to visit friends that live nearby. Cell signal was good enough on the front porch to send/receive emails. The staff was wonderful. They were very friendly and helpful (Internet issue aside). The goats were a hoot. I didn't know goats were so gregarious. There were at least a half dozen horses. I should close with a couple of items. The owners were out of the country at the time so we have no experience with them face-to-face. Secondly, my wife and I do not agree on how to rate the cabin we stayed in, but she's spoiled by more expensive home away and air bnb places we've stayed. I would say the price reflects the cabin we stayed in. Had it been 300-400 a night I would expect more. The 4 stars is a compromise.

Convenient location to Downtown Boerne
The property's distance to Boerne makes this location convenient yet you still feel tucked away in the country. The location is mindful of a YMCA camp as there are several cabins on the property tucked away in the trees. Our visit was relatively quiet and restful. Be prepared to bring a book as the internet service is missing and the WiFi was so slow movies were interrupted while streaming - there is no cable TV. These are not negatives as long as you are prepared to read, play games as a family, and enjoy the overall peace and quiet of this property. This was our anniversary weekend and we were pleased to have a bottle of wine in the room upon arrival compliments of Micky and Vicki. The only downside for us is that as of today, after a couple of emails, we still have not received a refund of our pet deposit. We would stay here again.
