Short version: recommended only for people who don't need temperature controls, are 5'11" or shorter, don't care about bathtubs, and are prepared to bike or Uber everywhere.
Long version:
This really is a pretty basement unit - the patio is nice, the mini kitchen is functional, and we didn't hear a peep from the upstairs neighbors. The location is decent - some good restaurants within a 15 minute walk, and you're about 20-30 minute drive from downtown.
However, some caveats:
1) The gate was difficult to use (as others have commented). The combo they give you is *not* for the gate handle on the right, but for the mini safe attached to the left gate.
2) Despite there being two thermostats in the unit, neither has any effect on the temperature or fan. When I wrote to ask about this, I was informed that "Unfortunately, the thermostat and AC are not offered amenities of this home." I suspect that the other reviewer who complained about heating issues was in a similar boat. While the house is climate controlled, presumably by whoever lives upstairs, we found the room to get too hot for sleeping by 5am.
3) As someone who's exactly 6'1" tall, I can say that the ceiling beams are exactly 6'1" off the ground. People 5'11" and under should be fine.
4) There is no way to take a bath in the tub. The plug is spring-loaded with no way to make it stay down or to cover it.
5) If you need to park a vehicle, know that you may need to go a street or two over because the area is packed.
