Buxton Crescent

Buxton Crescent

8/10 Good
"This is not really a 5 star hotel but a 4 star. The staff were delightful, friendly and always ready to help and the spa was amazing, but the room let it down. We had a crescent view, which was lovely, but the mattress was uncomfortable and I had to pad it up with pillows. There weren't the amenities you would expect in a 5 star hotel such as a coffee machine, just a kettle, sachets of instant coffee and no fresh milk. Nor was there a fully stocked minibar, just two bottles of water. Likewise I thought the decor was dated, but others may not. The bathroom was good, with a separate bath and excellent shower. We had room service breakfast but the orange juice was not fresh but from concentrate, and one morning they got the order wrong and it came an hour later than ordered. We used the restaurant once. The food was good but not inspired and on the night we were there the service was a bit haphazard, one of the dishes lukewarm not hot, and the waiting staff didn't seem to know much about the dishes they were serving. But the staffs' friendliness made up for a lot and if it charged 4 star prices, I would forgive them the little glitches."

"This over five hundred years old hotel is an interesting place. Wonky floors creaking everywhere (we’d all be creaking long before five hundred years old) Going up a slight slope to the bathroom is novel. Breakfast is very good. Comfortable beds. Great location."

"Staff were all excellent, hotel in great location. Car park recommended by hotel very secure and easy. Hotel - The beds were very comfortable with nice soft sheets. We had a ground floor room on a busy Friday, I was worried about the noise, but actually I could only hear faintest sound of music. The main room opposite the reception desk is really nice with character and a view of the square, but we did not have time to sit here for a drink. Breakfast was a little disappointing but perfectly ok. We arrived at half 10, it finishes at 11. There were not any pastries left, but plenty of other hot food to choose from. We felt the breakfast room was not as nice as the other rooms in the hotel. It would be nice to have breakfast in the room upstairs opposite reception! Thank you for our stay, we would stay again."

"Superb stay. Lovely hotel and room. One of the most spacious showers that have ever used. Provided fan came in useful as room quite hot when we entered. Am not an expert at working out how to use coffee machines, so pleased that they supplied a kettle when I asked. Providing biscuits and more teas/coffees on each floor was a novel and welcome feature. Very nice breakfast. Ultra tasty sausages and top quality yoghurts. Plenty of bananas, although croissants not the best. Will definitely be returning if in the area."

Palace Hotel & Spa Buxton

Palace Hotel & Spa Buxton

8/10 Good
"The reception staff were very friendly and helpful when asking for additional pillows ( only 1 pp provided). The breakfast was good and tasty and plenty of attentive staff if needed. The hotel rooms however are very tired with very poor decor standards. Tiles in the bathroom were miss-matched and grubby and flooring lifting in places. Was surprised to have to pay £5 to park the car as a resident though"
